Current Shows that could have crossover episodes - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I know legally it can't be done, but wouldn't it be cool if characters from one sitcom would make guest appearences on another sitcom on a different network?

For instance....

My Wife and Kids/The Bernie Mac Show episode

Everybody Loves Raymond/According to Jim episode

The Simpsons/Father of the Pride episode

and so forth........

Everybody Loves Raymond and The King of Queens did at least one crossover episode.

Ray Romano and Kevin James are buddies in real life.

Why isn't it legal? I don't see why, if they both were on each other's shows, it couldn't be done.

Maybe if they were produced by the same studio, it could be done. The most obvious one was a Will & Grace-Friends cross-over, but it was never done because W&G is produced by NBC, Friends by WB.

How about The Practice and Ally McBeal having a crossover?

Two different networks- ABC and FOX.

Of course David Kelly created them both.

Janice mentioned the Everybody Loves Raymond/King Of Queens crossovers. Those two shows are produced by two different studios. ELR is HBO (ultimately Time Warner) and KOQ is a Columbia Tri-Star (Sony) production.

I think the reason why we don't see crossover episodes to other networks is because many network actors have contracts to appear on their "home network" only, meaning that their guest appearances on other shows/networks may be limited and dictated by the network they work for.

Other-network crossovers have happened, too. A few years ago, there was a Practice (ABC)/Boston Public (Fox) crossover.

Ohh god no.... never use FOTP and The Simpsons in the same sentence as "cross over"
NEVER.

I always thought an According To Jim/George Lopez crossover would be interesting.

I can't really think of any other crossovers for current shows.... because there is so few.

But, NBC missed the boat big time by not doing a Frasier/Friends crossover.

about 10 years ago, NBC used the same plot on all their thursday night comedies, which at the time were "Mad About You" "Friends" "Sienfeld" and something else (I forget what).
The only one that didn't however, was "Seinfeld"

The plotline was a blackout throughout NYC, caused on MAY.

Frasier had a blackout as well.... just earlier in the week, and in a different city.

Seinfeld however.... shouldve never crossed over with anything.
It's too real.

Crossovers between shows that are not owned by the same production companies have happened before, generally when the shows are on the same network. "Ellen", "Drew Carey", and "Coach" (all produced by separate companies) did crossovers when they all aired on the same night on ABC. But, yeah, it's easier to do when the shows are owned by the same production company.

"Ally McBeal" and "The Practice" had several crossover episodes. Ditto for "The Practice" and "Boston Public". All three shows were produced by David Kelley and set in Boston, although "The Practice" was on ABC and the other two were on Fox. When some of "The Practice" characters appeared on "Boston Public", "BP" started with a teaser that said, "previously on 'The Practice'". Shows you what kind of clout David Kelley had.
