Before "Joey", Bobby Wheeler was a struggling actor in New York City. Now Bobby's moved to California to try and make it as an actor. The series debuted as a mid season sitcom in 1982. Here's the cast for "Bobby".

Bobby Wheeler (from Taxi) moves to California to become an actor. That happened in his last "Taxi" episode. This spin-off just follows his life post-Taxi. He first rooms with his college buddy Paul Carrington. Fred Holiday is their annoying neighbor who tries to be their friend. Wendy Smith is Bobby's agent and Carrie is her sister. Carrie has a crush on Bobby and so is always around her sister whenever Bobby visits.

Season One Episodes: 1982

1. "California Here I Am"
Bobby Wheeler officially moves to California to make it as an actor. He moves into an apartment with his old college buddy, Paul Carrington. Bobby's agent, Wendy Smith gets him his first audition - as a character in a children's TV show. In the end, Bobby fails the audition (for which he's kind of glad) and the annoying Fred Holiday moves next door and befriends Bobby and Paul.

2. "Bobby & Carrie & Paul"
Paul asks Carrie out on a date. She accepts only because she thinks it will bring her closer to Bobby. That night, when Paul brings Carrie home, her and Bobby hit it off. Paul leaves the room and comes back to find it empty. Bobby and Carrie have gone off together. The next day, Paul decides to confront Bobby about his anger.

3. "The Big Gig"
Wendy gets Bobby an audition for a sitcom about a rock band. Bobby gets excited about it and decides he wants to really learn how to play the guitar. He turns to Paul for lessons. In the end, Bobby doesn't get the role but he does learn how to play the guitar.

4. "Two Months, a Job and a Bed"
Two months into his stay at California, Bobby goes for an audition in the role of a cab driver. He gets cast in the movie and celebrates with Paul, Wendy, Carrie and even Fred. The party goes all night and they all get drunk. So drunk that Bobby and Fred wake up in the same bed. They then have to figure out how and why they slept in the same bed.

13. "A Crack at Writing"
Bobby, fed up with no acting job, decides to write a movie about his days as a cab driver. Meanwhile, Paul, Wendy and Carrie go over to Fred Holiday's apartment for his birthday party. Once Bobby has finished the script he tries to sell it but fails. Then he's in a deep depression over more failure. Paul and Fred end the episode by sitting next to Bobby in his living room. Paul hands the guys a beer and they toast "tomorrow", with whatever it brings.

After the season finale, George Wendt quit "Bobby" to do the sitcom "Cheers". Kind of funny, Wendt's character of Paul tried so hard to stay away from Kelsey Grammer's Fred Holiday. However two years later, Grammer would follow him and join the cast of "Cheers".

Bobby has lost his roomate. Paul Carrington has moved away after waking up drunk and married. He decided to stay married and moved out of state (This is all explained by Bobby. George Wendt does not appear in the episode). Now Bobby has convinced Fred Holiday to be his new roomate. Wendy is re-thinking her life and is close to the conclusion that she'd rather do something else with her life. Carrie continues to date Bobby. She wants to get married, but Bobby's not ready. Bobby and Fred's new neighbor is a tall creepy guy named Richter.

14. "Roomies"
After saying goodbye to Paul, Bobby is desperate to find a new roomate. So desperate that he invites Fred to live with him. Fred goes all out to make Bobby happy that he becomes more of a housekeeper than a roomate. Nonetheless, Bobby enjoys the new arrangement. Brian Richter moves next door and is very secretive. Wendy developes a crush on Richter and likes his mysterious life.

35. "Wendy Smith's Life Change"
Wendy has finally quit her job as an acting agent. Instead she decides to go to an out of state college and become a kindergarten teacher. This news upsets Bobby, who doesn't want to let her go. It also upsets Richter, who was finally going to go out with her. Bobby, Fred, Carrie and Richter all throw her a "Going Away" party.

The second (of many) cast members to leave the show is Sally Struthers. She has told many interviewers that she never liked the role of Wendy Smith. She didn't really get along with her on-screen sister, Suzanne Somers either. They both wanted the leading lady role.

Bobby hires Tara Jameson as his new agent. At the same time, he tries to find the nerve to ask Carrie to marry him. Fred and Richter set the atmosphere, in a comedic way of course. Bobby asks, Carrie accepts and the episode ends with the two kissing.

Richter gets a phone call from Wendy Smith. He leaves to visit her. A week later he returns, only to leave again. He has decided to persue Wendy. And so he moves away. Meanwhile, Bobby gets a an acting job in a murder mystering film.

45. "The New Neighbor"
Evan Walters moves next door. After a few misunderstandings, Evan is convinced that Bobby is out to kill both Fred and Carrie. So he hides the two confused people in his apartment. Finally, Evan finds out Bobby was rehearsing for a role and the two become friends.

57. "The Wedding Episode"
Bobby and Carrie finally have their wedding. This episode features many characters from the past. People at the wedding are; Alex Reiger (Judd Hirsch), Tony Banta (Tony Danza), Elaine Nardo (Marilu Henner) and Paul Carrington (George Wendt). This is also Fred Holiday's final episode. In it, Fred's rich father dies and he inherits the Holiday manison. Naturally, to get Kelsey Grammer off the show, the mansion is out of state. The last scene is Bobby in his tuxedo, ready to leave for his honeymoon with Carrie, saying goodbye to Fred Holiday.

Dawn Wells (Mary Ann from Gilligan's Island) joins the cast as Bobby's new agent. She's older than Wendy, which Bobby feels would be a good change.

Midseason, Richard Moll left the role of Brian Richter in favor of the Bull Shannon character in the new sitcom "Night Court."

Don Most (Ralph Malph from Happy Days) joins the show replacing Richard Moll.

After three seasons, Kelsey Grammer left the show. He joined the cast of "Cheers" with former "Bobby" actor George Wendt. Fred leaving means that Bobby and Carrie are the only two characters from the first season to remain in the program.

Andy Kaufman was set to appear in the season finale as Latka Gravas. However his declining health forced him not to appear. Shortly thereafter, Kaufman died on May 16, 1984.

Sadly, "Bobby" lost viewers this season. Some blamed a married Bobby others blamed the departure of Kelsey Grammer. Whatever the reason was, NBC canceled the show after 79 episodes.

NBC believed McLean Stevenson's character had potential and gave him his own spin-off series "Homeless in L.A."
