Would ratings for certain TV shows on cable drop if all seasons were on DVD? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

A TV show like Sanford and Son really can leave TV Land in Jan of 2005 because all the seasons will be on DVD. And i think viewers will not feel the need to watch Sanford and Son on TV LAND since they will have every single episode on DVD uncut. I think Viewers watch N@N for shows like the Fresh Prince since it's not available on DVD. Which would explain why the FP marathon did so well in the ratings. But I defintely think ratings for TV shows would be very low on cable if the show is complete on DVD.

It's possible. I know I'd watch less of something on tv if I have it on dvd. Though I never get tired of watching Three's Company, even the episodes from just the first 2 seasons that I already have on dvd. If TC's on tv I'll still watch it but for the most part, if I own a show on dvd, I'll watch it on dvd.

Not necessarily cause not everyone own's DVD players and not everyone likes to buy tv show dvds, some still prefer to watch them on tv(like my grandma she wouldn't even know how to work a dvd player).

I love watching my shows on tv even with me owning the DVD

I don't think cable should drop shows that are completely on DVD because one; people can not always afford all of the sets and two; not all TV-DVD's are uncut, and there could be a channel that could be airing completely uncut episodes, i.e. Goodlife TV.

It might drop some but I would still watch some of the shows on cable even
if I had it on DVD.

I don't think so, Friends is completely on DVD(as is sex and the city) and TBS plays both. I own a few seasons of Friends and yet I still watch it on tv, sometimes I'm too lazy to play my dvd or I'm watching it while doing something else.

For people who don't want to buy the DVDs they could always use Netflix. I have a $4.99 a month plan so I get 2 DVDs a month which is plenty for me and right now I am expecting a Dick Van Dyke disc in the mail. You get one at a time. Or you can get one at a time unlimited for $10. The point is, it really seems unfair that shows like Friends are on DVD and cable when so many classic shows are nowhere to be found as yet, or have only one season out.

Some people don't want to own the shows on dvd. I'm one of them. If someone gave them to me, I'd give them away. I like watching them on tv.

I'm pretty sure this won't happen with Roseanne. Pretty soon I believe the rest of the series will be released and I'll bet money N@N will still air it like Christ himself is the star of the show.
