Default Scenes That Robert Reed HATED!

Guys,

If you watch The Brady Bunch very, very closely you will see some mannerisms of Robert Reed during some scene shots, where you could tell that he was not happy with what was happening in a scene but it was still used. (i.e the biggest examples are when he kind of looks away and rolls his eyes in disgust at certain things that are happening.) Can you think of any specifics where this occurs to your eyes?

We could still make a list of scenes that he didn't like. According to Barry Williams, Growing Up Brady book:

1.) Robert Reed hated the tag sequence of "The Impractical Joker."

2.) He hated the Tiger/Fluffy chase scene and the cake falling on him in "The Honeymoon."

3.) I assume that he must have hated crawling on the floor and ribbiting like a frog in "Eeanie Meenie, Mommy Daddy."

4.) He also hated the scene helping Myran run the maze in "The Impractical Joker."

5.) He hated all of "The Hair Brained Scheme."

6.) You can tell that he looked drunk or out of it in some way in the tag scene of "My Fair Opponent." (Maybe he hated the idea of the school having multiple hostesses for Senior Banquet Night!)

7.) He hated the writing and content of "And Now A Word From Our Sponsor.", especially the names of the laundry soaps.

Can you think of any others?

Jack

He refused to say, "It smells like strawberry heaven".....

He claimed strawberries had no odor when they're cooked.

There is like one or two episodes where he does this. It's very sutle, but for the life of me, I can't remember the episodes where he does it!

I think Robert Reed was brilliant in "The Brady Bunch", but he was dead wrong in his criticism of this episode. Skip Farnum=Comic Gold!

I remember reading a point-by-point memo that Robert Reed fired off to Sherwood Schwartz regarding the "Best vs. Safe" episode in the GROWING UP BRADY book. One of his complaints was directed at a scene where Alice is in the kitchen while Mike and Carol are rehearsing with Myrna (Meer-na) Carter. Reed did not like how they had Alice holding the mop up to her face during her dialogue. He said something to the effect that no one in their right mind would appear to be kissing a mop if it had been in dirty water. In actuality, Alice had the mop in that position because she was attaching a new mop head and tightening it, which is actually a pretty normal position for replacing a mop head. I can understand why he may have disliked this particular episode, but he really seemed to be splitting hairs in his memo to Schwartz.

I love Meeerna, too. That whole episode is just so cartoonish, it completely cracks me up. There are some great quotes, too.

"Wow, he brought me a box of that stuff!"

"Now Mom, you over here at the counter makin' with the greenery, and Pops, you come flippin' in and lay the flakes on the little lady. Then we have a little rap session, and then cut."

"What are you cats trying to do?" "We're being bigger than life!" "Yeah, well you'll be bigger, but not in my life. Now, out..out..out of my house!" "This is OUR house!"

"That's what happens when you put squares in front of the camera. They flip out on you!"

I guess I can understand how Robert Reed felt that the whole thing seemed artificial (even for the Bradys). But it still makes me laugh. And it's way better than some of the later episodes (Bobby and Oliver vs. the FBI; the UFO; Alice and Sam's alleged elopement; etc.).

You can easily tell how annoyed Robert Reed was with the soap commercial episode. As we see a video camera shot of Mike holding the box of soap powder upside down, the look on the face says it all as he turns the box rightside up.

I dont think he would have enjoyed the kissing scenes with Carol too much because of her sexuality, and apparently it made him uncomfortable.

I don't feel he was uncomfortable kissing Carol at all! As a matter of fact,he seemed quite comfortable kissing her.I don't think being gay makes you disgusted by kissing a woman.I think they were friends in real life and it didn't bother him.I think he liked episodes where the "grown-ups" interacted.Just my opinion and observation!

It's quite apparant that he at least became more comfortable with Florence and had quite a chemistry going on throughout the series. I would say he seems comfortable with the kissing scenes. No, I would say, Reed had more problems with the stories than anything.
