I haven't seen a whole lot on these boards about Josh Groban, and was just wondering how many people here are fans of his? I think he's definitely one of the top five artists out there today. He makes most of the artists on MTV look like amateurs. To anyone who hasn't heard of him, I strongly recommend you check him out.To those of you who are fans, what are your favorite songs of his? Mine are: You Raise Me Up, and You're Still You.

He is an incredible talent. He did a guest spot on Ally McBeal a few years ago. That's the first time I heard him sing, and it blew me away.

I thought he was amazing at the Superbowl pre-game show earlier this year. That was the first time I saw him perform live, and unlike most artists, he actually sounds better live. Most of today's mainstream artists sound terrible live in my opinion. I caught him a few nights ago at the World Music Awards, and he sounded absolutely amazing there as well. They had some big name artists perform, and he got one of the loudest ovations of the night. He's definitely got a great career ahead of him, and I know I'll be following it every step of the way!!

He can sing better than most of the pop singers in his age group, but his lyrics are too generic and cliched. You Raise Me Up is too similar to Danny Boy.

I thought Josh Groban was black when I first heard him. The song was, "Where You Are", and he sounded like James Ingram. I thought his name was Josh Grover when the radio station said his name.

Josh Groban clearly has operatic training. A black singer with that background would have a real uphill battle making it as a pop singer today, although Heather Headley seems to have that kind of training. The radio stations are so formatted now that that type of African American singer's label would pressure him to sing r&b tunes. One black act I like that doesn't fall prey to sounding conventionally black is Dakota Moon. Seal is another, but he's not American so he isn't pigeonholed as much as the American born acts. |

I LOVE Josh Groban. "You Raise Me Up" was used at my graduation when we did our thank you presentation to our parents. Oh dear Lord, my mom was crying so much, I thought she was gonna drown.
My favorite Josh songs right now are "You Raise Me Up," "Remember When It Rained," and "Si Volvieras a Mi." |

Does anyone know if his PBS special will be airing again anytime soon? I only caught the tail end of it.

Josh Groban is AMAZING! His operatic training is obvious, yes, but thank God he has not limited himself to opera as such! He can sing in so many different languages and make you believe he is a native speaker! (Particularly Spanish, which is my second language LOL)
The lyrics he has written himself, "Remember When it Rained" and "Never Let Go", are anything BUT cliched. Come to that, I can't think of any of the other English ones that really are LOL! The English translations I have read of some of the other songs do come across as trite, but that is not his fault. His performance of them in their original languages is flawless and devastatingly emotional, which is the whole point, IMHO. And while not my favorite of his, "You Raise Me Up" is unique in its return to something like Shakespeare ("my heart burdened be"). My favorite of the foreign-language songs is "Si Volverias a Mi". His best in English has to be "To Where You Are"--and not just cuz it reminds me of one of my dark angels, the late Freddie Prinze. I cry over both of them, every time! Then there are his unconventionally handsome looks and his sweet manner in person! (I have seen him live, and every time someone yells out, "I love you, Josh!", he says, "Awww, I love you too!" Unfortunately I couldn't yell that, cuz I had laryngitis!) I too highly recommend that if you are not familiar, you check him out--he is utterly without competition as a singer, pianist, and songwriter! |

I know that it was mentioned about his putting some listeners to sleep, but it is the soothing quality of his voice that I like so much about Josh. We are all the time talking about that in school, when the day has been stressful, a good cup of tea, a warm bath and the Closer album are all you need to chase the stress away.
I know I am probably in a minority, but I find "You Raise Me Up" very spiritual. I had my husband get me the sheet music because I would love to sing it in church one day. |
