Default Wow!!!

one of my friends sent me a list of her cd collection that she sent to a 17 year old friend of hers (she's in her late 20's) and the friend has never heard of. I cannot believe someone who is 17, especially with parents in their early-to-mid 30's (they had her young) has never heard of:

::drum roll::
Prince
George Michael
Metallica
Garbage
Sade
Melissa Etheridge
David Bowie
Stevie Nicks
Moby
Tina Turner
Guns N Roses
Dolly Parton

am I the only person kinda shocked someone who is 17 has never heard of ANY of these artists? I wonder what kind of rock she was living under for all her life, and if so, I wanna rescue other kids out of that rock, lol. I mean, to know who Simple Plan is but to not knowing who Prince or Metallica or Bowie is is rather sad if you ask me. Since all of those artists have had some sort of success in the past decade, not like people are expecting her to know Kajagoogoo or A Taste Of Honey.

Yeah, who on earth has never heard of that Stevie Nicks guy?

Yes, that is an amazing list of people for one citizen of the US or Britain at least to have never heard of.

That really doesn't surprise me, I know 17 year olds who don't know who Elvis or the Beatles are

Actually I know quite a few young people who have never heard of Stevie Nicks. It is strange though that she has never heard of a single artist on that list. She must be living under a rock or something.

Yes I understood the joke I was just referring to BuffySlayers list and how he couldn't believe that that girl had never heard of her.

well, Stevie did have a couple hits off the Trouble In Shangri-La album in 2001, and also the Fleetwood Mac reunion tours in 97 and last year, so it makes me surprised someone is completely in the dark who she is, when she's definately stayed around.

Yep. Stevie Nicks is pretty danged well known. Surprised me that a 17 year old would hadn't heard of her.

plus, you would think that since her mom is 34, that she would've definately played a lot of this music around her daughter. Since kids do know a lot from childhood what their parents liked. Many of the artists listed, 34 is usually a common age for fans of them.

This is what happens when kids listen to nothing but those stupid rap stations.

I've gotta say I didn't know who Stevie Nicks was until I was almost in my 20's.

Growing up I never got to listen to music that often.

Oh I agree with you that it is strange that some people have never heard of her. It surprises me too whenever I meet some young person who doesn't know who she is. I was just trying to point out that I know many people who have no idea who I'm talking about if I mention her.
But I think Mandie has a point about kids listening to nothing but Rap/Hip Hop or whatever and not becoming familiar with other kinds of music. I've even met a few people who have never heard of Frank Sinatra and he was very popular back in his day.

We never had a radio growing up, my grandma finally bought me and my brother one when we were about 15.

My dad just thought radios were really unnecessary.
