Default Top 200 fave artists

on a dare yesterday (tho it took me half the day), I was able to compile my top 200 artists. I like a ton of artists, so someone being, oh #124 for me really isn't that bad. There's a few shameful artists on it (I HATE J. Lo but liked her first two albums, so that's why she's on here, albeit very low) but I consider it rather representative

John, I've always had great respect for your wide range in musical taste and I think this list shows it. I also remember your list of CDs that you own. I have many, many CDS, but not as many as you. How on Earth did you afford to buy all these CDs?
You have to tell me what line of work you are in.

Wow, nice list. Your top three would all rank pretty high on my list too. Nice to see Kate Bush, Suzanne Vega and others on there. You know you've gone and inspired me to do the same thing now, don't you? I don't know if I'll go as far as 200 but...see you in half a day.

Holy smokes! Just curious, Buffyslayer, do you play an instrument? If not, do you wish like heck that you did?

Another question: Yoko Ono? I'm perplexed that she is so high in your rankings. I'm not questioning your opinion. We all know how dangerous that can be, lol. I'm just surprised and wonder what it is that she has done that puts her so high on your list.

I'd promise to reply with a list of 200, but I don't know if I could come up with it, ever, much less in a couple of days or so.

Great list, Buffyslayer.

I haven't even begun ranking my list of artists. All I've done so far is compile a list of artists I'd consider putting on my list, and I'm already up to 150 acts.

lol, Yoko really is an acquired taste, but I really love her work. I am not fond of her first couple records, but I think when she got the screaming out of her system and started writing actual songs (starting with 73's Approximately Infinite Universe), she began to blossom and became a real underrated artist. Her singing is something that can either turn you off or you like it... I'm in the latter, she's not a "good" singer but I do think the uniqueness in it really adds to her appeal IMO.

But I know there are only about six other fellow Yoko Ono fans in North America, lol.

one thing I notice is that I generally am drawn more to artists who really go around the map instead of sticking to one sound. Of my top 15, just about everyone has gone across the board and done several different types of music. That is one thing I find sadly missing in today's scene, you have very few artists who are willing to take risks and have the guts someone like Prince or Bowie has done many many times.

Too many of today's artists are afraid of alienating any fans by trying something different.

Good observation and comment. I agree. Steve Winwood was someone who surprised me each time he came out with new music or ever a new band. Another was Jethro Tull.

Oops. I'd better watch it or I'll slip into writing a list.

You got a good taste in music i like alot of the same stuff that you like as well. I will highlight the ones i like.

I would probably say out of your list i like these ones the most. As for the other ones, not that i don't like them but i probably only like 1 or 2 songs by them as for these artists i like more than 1 or 2 songs by them.

Default If I may: my list

This was hard, exhausting, frustrating, etc. I had over 200 different acts and it was hard as heck narrowing it down to 100. I'm sure I left some people off by accident, I'll probably have to revise this list, but for now, here's my 100 favorites:
100.TLC
99.Salt N Pepa
98.The Time
97.Anthony Hamilton
96.Kate Bush
95.First Choice
94.KC & The Sunshine Band
93.PM Dawn
92.Teena Marie
91.Family Stand
90.Commodores
89.Slapbak
88.Erykah Badu
87.Sam Cooke
86.Fleetwood Mac
85.Sylvester
84.Pharcyde
83.Regina Belle
82.Stylistics
81.Ten City
80.Angie Stone
79.Public Enemy
78.Tevin Campbell
77.Smokey Robinson
76.Neneh Cherry
75.Guns N Roses
74.Jill Scott
73.2pac
72.Village People
71.Isaac Hayes
70.Lauryn Hill
69.LaBelle/Patti LaBelle
68.Sly & The Family Stone
67.LL Cool J
66.Rahsaan Patterson
65.Bob Marley
64.Duran Duran
63.Ready For The World
