Default One Question that will always be unanswered

I will never know the reason why Jean Stapleton and Carroll O' Connor never appeared on the Jeffersons but Sherman Hemsley and Isabel Sanford returned to All in the Family in 1978 and 1979 for a guest appearance. Why would they be brought back to All in the Family but the Bunkers could not be brought to the Jeffersons. Damm I wish i could interview Norman Lear-LOL

It would have been overkill to have the Bunkers on the Jeffersons show. The audience didn't need to see the couples on each others shows every week to know they remained friends. The Jeffersons was the spin off, so having the Bunkers appear on would be defeatin the purpose of establishing a NEW show, too.

Well why did the Jeffersons have to return to All in the Famil after their show was already establised???

If you notice Caroll O'Connor and Jean Stapleton did not appear on Maude. Maude was Edith's cousin.

Well atleast The Bunkers were At Maude's House in the Maude Pilot. Edith was the only character seen from the Bunker Household in the Jeffersons Pilot-lol

Maude never appeared on Good Times either.Good Times was supposebly a spin off from Maude.Florida having been Maude's first housekeeper. But I realise that there has been a recent debate over whether Good Times was in fact spun off of Maude or not,due to the inconsistencies between the Florida character of Maude and her character on Good Times.

I was the one who started the debate that GT is not a spinoff of Maude and no it was never a spinoff

Did anyone stop and think that maybe Stapleton and O'Connor did not want to appear on these spinoffs, and had it written into their contracts that would not appear on them? I know that Carrol was a bit of a difficult man at times, and time off from AITF usually meant other projects for the actors. Just a thought!

Yeah that could be the reason too.

No one is suggesting that the Bunkers should have appeared every week on the Jeffersons, or even a few times a season. What we are saying is during the entire run of the Jeffersons (11 years) it would have been nice to see Archie and Edith visit them at least once or twice-considering that at least Edith and Louise were close friends and it was great watching Archie and George spar with each other. If Carroll and Jean were the ones to nix it, someone should have talked them into taking one for the team.

Because The Jeffersons were a big part of AITF.... they had already been established on the show.

Whereas you could watch TJ from beginning to end.... and have no need for AITF.

Carroll and Jean could have made ONE guest apperance on the Jeffersons since the Jeffersons was on AITF 4 yeArs. Not Maude because she only made ONE appearance so a guest appearance by Archie and Edith wasn;t really necessary. But Edith and Louise were close friends and it's so mind boggling why the two shows never crossed over. I would love to have lunch with Norman Lear because i have about 50 questions for him-lol

I would've loved to see Archie and Edith on TJ as well. (Just imagine Archie's reaction to Mr. Bentley)

I too would love to have lunch with Norman Lear.... but all my questions would spill over into dinner time.

I think the Bunkers definitely should have appeared on The Jeffersons. It would have been a rating's bonanza. I'd like to know the reason why they did not. Something tells me it was Carroll O'Connor. I love the guy, but from what I've read, he could be a difficult man.
