Default Mysteries of Cheers to Ponder

Another board I used to go to did something like this. They dedicated a thread to "mysteries" where everyone just posted things that didn't make sense, didn't add up, conflicted with something else said in the show, etc. I thought it might be fun to see what we came up with for Cheers! I hope there isn't already a thread like this, I didn't see (an active!) one.

The fact that Anthony announced that Annie (Carla's daughter-in-law) was pregnant, and Carla went into a crisis.
But after the episode ended, it was never mentioned again.

In the Tortellis spinoff, she is not pregnant either.

Technically not a "mystery" - but does anybody know who actually painted that picture of Diane in the final episode of season 2? I really like that painting.

In "Call Me Irresponsible " the gang sends Carla flowers that are supposedly from Eddie for their second wedding anniversary. She knows they aren't from Eddie because he signed the card "Edward" but his real name is "Gui."

But then in "Death Takes a Holiday on Ice," Eddie is called "Edward LeBec" at his funeral.

Haha no - not the horrible mail-order one. I'm talking about the one Chrisopher LLoyd's character painted. The grey and white one.

Maybe there's a "special thanks" kind of thing for it in the closing credits? I haven't seen that episode in years, even though it's on the DVDs.

Default Anthony and Annie's baby

Actually, the reason that Anthony/Annie's baby was dropped was because Rhea had an absolute cow over the idea of having to play a grandmother and stormed into the producers' office, screaming that no way were they bringing a baby onto the series. She ordered Anthony and Annie OFF THE SHOW. Further, not wanting to share the spotlight with Jay Thomas any longer, she ordered him written out as well so that all future "Carla" stories could concentrate ONLY on Carla (and not Carla/Jay or Carla and her kids). That's why Jay Thomas was killed "off-screen" and never actually seen again, and why Anthony and Annie were never mentioned again.

I never thought of Anthony and Annie being part of the whole "focus on Carla only thing"
Makes sense now, though.

I did however hear that the entire cast (sans Rhea) and the guy that played Eddie all thought he would come back in the next season as a main character, but Rhea was sick of having to share her time with him. She thought Carla should be single

Default Anthony & Annie

At the time I was dating one of the runners on the show (Lori Moneymaker). And it wasn't that Anthony & Annie were hogging all the screentime. No, it was more that Rhea didn't want to share any of the spotlight at all -- with anyone. When they did a "Carla" show, she wanted it to be just about Carla, instead of Carla & Eddie or Carla & Nick or Carla & her kids. Rhea, you have to understand, felt that she was only cast on CHEERS (and especially on TAXI) because of her husband. As a result, she was very insecure.

What exactly is a runner?

And this is very cool.
I hope you stay around.
The closest we've gotten to a cast member yet....
Did you meet any of them??

I think he's talking about a showrunner. It's a producer who works behind-the-scenes and... runs the show.

I can kind of understand where Rhea was coming from, though. She went straight from her "Taxi" appearances to "Cheers," and she would hardly ever get a story unless it involved pregnancy or Nick & Loretta. Especially in the later years, she got shafted when it came to stories.
