Default Spin City fan fic

Here's my Spin City fan fic. I'd love to hear what you think!!!!

Mike Flaherty was beginning to adjust to his job as an aide to the President. The President of the United States. He had decided that Washington really was cool. Not to mention, he was married to Allison, who really had turned out to be the woman of his dreams. Shocking, since no woman had ever lived up to that long. His beeper vibrated on his belt, and he saw that she was trying to contact him. He'd get back to her in a few minutes, he was busy right then.
When he finished, Mike threw his suit jacket on, slipped his feet back into his black dress shoes and picked up his briefcase. The cell phone Allison had bought him rang. "Hello?" he answered, running outside and hoping to catch a cab.
"Michael, it's your mother."
"Mother? Oh, hi, Mom."
"I hear you have a new cell phone."
"Yes, and I think I have only fifteen minutes left on it. Those free time minutes sure go fast!" he said, getting in a taxicab. "didn't even tell me; your wife had to! Son, don't you want to talk to your mother?"
"Fourteen minutes, no, wait, thirteen and thirty-six seconds," he said.
"I have to talk to my son more then once a month!"
"I think we?re down to twelve minutes now."
"Michael, I feel like there's a canyon between us--"
"There is; it's called the United States. You live in California and I live in Washington D.C."
"More then that! You love me, don't you, son?" his mother earnestly asked.
"Of course I do, Mommy. Eight minutes left." His mother sighed.
"I just wanted to check in on you. I'll talk to you soon."
"Just don't call before Monday. We get our new minutes then," Mike said, and his mother hung up. When he got home, he found Allison waiting for him at the door.
"I love you, honey," she greeted, hugging and kissing him.
"You do?"
"Yes, I love your charm, your wit, and how you're never suspicious of me like my old boyfriend was."
"That's nice. By the way, why were you talking to my mom? Did you call her or did she call you? What were you discussing? How often do you talk to her?" Allison just rolled her eyes and closed the door behind him. He put his briefcase down and jumped when he heard a familiar voice. "Does it have to have cows on it?" Mike frowned. "Stuart?" he called, walking into the dark kitchen. The light was flicked on, and Stuart and James were revealed. James was fully dressed in a suit, a white apron and a white chef hat. They were standing by a huge sheetcake with a cow drawn on the top with icing. "What are you guys doing here?"
"Didn't think we'd forget your birthday, did you?" Stuart asked. "Especially when you owe me fifty dollars and you mentioned you had a pretty wife." Allison followed Mike into the kitchen, smiling.
"They told me they were coming over."
"Surprise, surprise, yeah, yeah, yeah," Paul said, walking into the room holding a bag. "Just don't look in the bag, because we didn't have time to wrap the Bruce Springsteen CD collection we got you, and it would ruin the surprise if you saw it." Paul smiled hugely and handed him the bag.
"Thanks, Paul, I'm sure I'll be surprised," Mike said, putting the bag on the counter. He looked around. "Where's Carter, or could you not talk him into coming?"
"Vacation. The whole thing was my idea, you know," Paul spoke up. "We were sitting around, and I said, 'let's go visit Mike for his birthday. He's our favorite boss, he's handsome and smart,' I said all this, and then I said, 'The poor man's probably lonely.' They all agreed with me."
Janelle walked into the room next, having just come from the bathroom. "Actually, it was Nikki's idea. She called and suggested it. At the time, Paul was buying donuts," she corrected.
"It was bring donuts to work day!" Paul exclaimed.
"Yeah, the nintieth of them this year, since you started making the work holidays. Really, you should rename it, Eat Donuts At Work Day. I couldn't find any of them in the break room."
"That's not true, I left three of them!"
"They all had bites out of them."
"I had to test them!" Janelle just waved her hands, and turned her attention to Mike.
"Nikki was really sorry? you know, for making you lose your job."
"You know, it was the best thing that ever happened to me," Mike bravely announced.
"Really?" Janelle asked, taking a handkerchief from her purse and wiping her eyes. "
".... no," Mike admitted finally. "But I thought you'd feel better if I said so."
"So, Mike, tell me about the ladies at the White House. Any of them single? Gorgeous? My age? Interested in me?"
"Stuart, those four things never go together," Mike answered.
"Good news--the cow is finished," James announced, directing everyone's attention to the cow he'd put on the cake for Mike. "She looks so much like Aunt Sarah."
"Aunt Sarah?" Allison repeated, frowning. "Who's Aunt Sarah?"
"She was a cow," Stuart explained, slipping over close to Allison. "A real one. They cremated her."
"They cremated a cow?" Allison asked, raising her eyebrows.
"She was a wonderful cow," James said, getting teary-eyed.
"Then Mike was baptized by her ashes," Stuart put in. "They were all over him. You should have seen it."
"Let's move to a different subject," Janelle suggested.
"Like, the birthday boy. How are you, Mike?"
"Well, I was doing pretty good until I came home. I didn't expect to see Paul again."
"He's right, Janelle. We've ruined his birthday," Stuart said, shaking his head. "We shouldn't have let Paul come."
"We had to--he can always get a taxi cab. He's so big."
"Yes, big and handsome," Paul agreed.
"I meant big and--big. It's hard to miss you."
"It is, isn't it? I mean, I]m one in a million. One in a billion."
"Thank the good Lord,' Mike muttered. "Okay, so, a cake and a present. What more could I ask for? A quiet night with my wife, on my first birthday since I've been married?"
"A Bruce Springsteen CD set? Oh, no! I'm sorry, I'm awful at keeping secrets," Paul said. "I'm so sorry!"
"No, really, I would have been super surprised," Mike sarcastically said. Paul didn't detect the sarcasm, and smiled.
"Oh, good. I knew you would never guess."
"Of course not. So, where's Caitlin?" Mike asked, still unable to put her completely from his mind. He missed her some.
"She decided not to come," Janelle said, patting Mike on the back. "She thought it would be too hard on you." Mike's mind went back to saying goodbye to Caitlin when he'd moved to Washington. He remembered when she'd cooked dinner for him the night before he'd left New York City Hall.
"Mike? Mike? Mike, honey, are you okay?" Allison asked, shaking him gently. He snapped out of it and nodded.
"Yeah, fine," he assured her.
"Oh, Mike--I forgot to mention, my mom's friend's sister is coming over, with my aunt. I hope that's okay. My Aunt insisted on coming, and bringing her friend."
Mike groaned, picturing a couple of older ladies sitting around in his living room, knitting. "You know I love old people, and I really like to use them when I want something and I'm in spin doctor mode, but having a couple of them here for my birthday--"
"They're not that old. Well, my aunt's friend has a grandchild, but--"
"James, having you here is plenty of a surprise for me allready," Mike said, closing his eyes and groaning again. The doorbell rang.
"That must be them. They flew all the way here, just like we did. At least you can say hi," James told Mike, heading to the door. "Aunt Gloria!" James exclaimed, hugging the older lady that walked in.
"James, you look so cute in that silly outfit," a voice said.
"Ah, Aunt Goldie," James greeted, laughing. "I love calling you that." Mike's jaw dropped, and so did Stuart's. "Everyone, this is my Aunt Gloria, and her friend Goldie."
Goldie was wearing a long black dress and a huge diamond bracelet. "Sorry that my daughter Kate couldn't make it," Goldie said, smiling. She stepped forward to give Mike a hug but Stuart jumped in the way.
"I'm Mike," he said.
"James told me Mike was on the small-side," Goldie answered skeptically.
"I grew. You know, I did it just for you, Miss Hawn."
"Your aunt's friend is Goldie Hawn?" Janelle asked James.
"Yeah, didn't-didn't you guys know that?" James said. Mike pushed Stuart out of the way.
"I'm Mike Flaherty. On the small-side and everything," he told her, grinning and shaking her hand. She smiled back.
"That's nice. Happy birthday."
"It is happy. Now," Mike answered.
"May I introduce myself--" Paul started to say.
"No you may not," Mike interrupted him, and continued smiling at Goldie. "I've admired you since I was a kid!"
"Shows how young he is," Stuart said, leaning against the wall. "You're the kind of lady who needs someone more mature."
"Did I mention--" Paul started to say.
"No you didn't," Mike cut in. "May I call you Goldie?"
"Of course you can," Goldie answered.
"Great. Let me just say, you're a real inspiration to me," Mike told her, staring up at her with a big smile.
"Me too. I'm inspired," Stuart agreed. "And, single."
"And cute," Goldie added. Everyone stared at her, even Gloria, who had never seen Stuart in her life. "I always have liked a man in glasses. Makes him look smart. I like smart men."
"Did you know I--"
"Shut up, Paul," Mike interjected. "Would you like something to eat, Goldie? There's a cake right here. It's got a ... um, a cow on it."
"You seem more like the lady who would want a drink," Stuart spoke up.
"How did you know?" she said, batting her eyelashes at him.
"I'm Janelle," Janelle spoke up, shaking Goldie's hand.
"And I'm Mrs. Flaherty," Allison said, emphasizing the 'Mrs.' part. "Mrs. Mike Flaherty."
"I'm Mr. Flaherty. Mr. Mike Flaherty," Mike said.
"I'm--"
"She doesn't care, Paul!" Mike said.
"I'm Stuart, by the way," Stuart said, kissing Goldie's hand.
"What a charmer," she laughed.
"Why is everyone introducing themselves over and over again?" James asked finally, completely clueless.
"Well, we can't stay long, but it was nice to meet all of you. We're actually in town to visit an old friend of mine," Goldie said. Stuart raised an eyebrow.
"That wouldn't be Kurt we're talking about, would it?" he asked. Goldie laughed, shaking her head.
"Are you sure you're a grandmother? You don't look old enough to be a mom!" Mike breathed.
"Are you sure you're married, Mike?" Allison asked, putting her hands on her hips. As Goldie and Stuart walked out together, James was still trying to figure out what was going on.
"Wait a minute-- Mike, you don't like my Aunt Goldie, do you?" THE END. Sit, Ubu, sit. Good dog. Moo.
