Default Is Episode Order messed up??? . . .

. . . . in season four dvd set????? In season four, isn't this the season where Fred is off the show for five or six episodes, I think, due to a contract dispute and Grady takes over???? Anyway, if this is the case, are the episodes out of order in the dvd set???? Maybe I'm just getting my facts all fouled up, but it seems like the first five episodes or so on disc one are the ones without Fred/with Grady but then it goes to having "Fred" epidodes (e.g., the one where Fred thinks he has Frank Sinatra's ring, etc.) and then the first episode on disc two is Fred's welcome back party from St. Louis. Why are the episodes in this order???????????

Signed,
Respectfully,
Dutch

The episodes on the DVD are in production order instead of airdate order which is why you see the eps without Fred on Disc number one. The producers were prepared to move on without Fred and starting recording eps for season 4 which was the first 5 eps for season 4. Then Fred made an agreement with NBC and he was in the 6th produced episode-"There be Some Changes Made". The episode Surprise Party was his 3rd episode back from being absent from the set and NBC decided to air the episode'Surprise Party" as the 1st episode of seeason 4 so that everything would make sense to the viewers. He returned from St. Louis in that ep but it was the 9th episode produced which is why it's the first episode on the 2nd Disc. Hope I helped

Yes, that explains a lot. I have to admit that I don't enjoy the "Fred-less" episodes (i.e., the ones with Grady) all that much. They're OK but I like the ones with Fred better. That's why I was watching the last episodes on Disc One the other night and expecting more "Grady" episodes and, lo and behold, they were "Fred" episodes. This kind of confused me because I knew that the "Welcome Home" episode was the first episode of Disc Two.

Well, I got the new Fifth Season set today but I haven't had a chance to watch it yet. I can't wait.

Default Production Order

IMO I think it's more accurate to put them on the discs in their original production order for continuity. At first I didn't like it in that order but it's better when you think about it.
