FIRST OF ALL, I DON'T WATCH THIS SHOW. I JUST WANT TO GIVE MY IMPUT ON THIS GARBAGE. I DON'T LIKE SHAWN OR MARLON. THEY ARE NOTHING BUT A BUNCH OF BUFFOONS WHO MAKE FUN OF BLACK CULTURE. THEY ARE ALWAYS IN SOME NEGATIVE BLACK MOVIE.{REMEMBER DON'T BE A MENACE TO SOCIETY WHILE DRINKING YOUR JUICE IN THE 'HOOD?} NEITHER ONE OF THEM IS ORIGINAL, WHICH IS WHY THEY ARE ALWAYS MAKING PARODIES. I'M SICK OF BLACK PEOPLE LAUGHING AT STUFF LIKE THIS. WE DIDN'T REALLY GET ON TV AND NOTICED UNTIL THE 70'S AND THIS IS THE WAY WE PORTRAY ARE SELVES? THE YOUNGER GENERATION DOES NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT SIDNEY POITIER AND HARRY BELEFONTE ETC. ALL THEY KNOW IS STUFF LIKE THIS. COONING IS MORE LIKE IT. IT IS TIME FOR BLACK PEOPLE TO HAVE SOME PRIDE ABOUT THEMSELVES AND STOP EMBRACING GARBAGE LIKE THIS.

Why not post some info on older actors so that some of the younger generation in this forum might be interested in getting to know them? The younger generation might not know where to start. That may be a more productive way of suggesting that people watch something else instead of simply calling this show garbage. Quote:
I don't know that I'd say this show was embraced by Black people. |

I would say this show is embraced by black people because everything the Wayans do, people think it is funny. They coon too much. That is a good idea to do info on older actors. They have to want to. The young generation thinks everything old is bad, and that's not so.

I see your point that this show has a kind of lowest common denominator appeal to it (I think this is true of all of the Wayans family members' projects- at least the successful ones- Damon tried to do a drama about social workers called 413 Hope Street but it ran into political problems at Fox in 1997 and was quickly given the axe)
To enjoy something like this series you have to lower your expectations. Someone embraced this show because it ran for like 100 episodes over 5 seasons, although I wonder if something as crass as this series would make it now. This show ran as long as it did in part because it was the first series to premiere on the WB and that network wanted to establish itself. What would have been more interesting would have been to keep the basic thrust of 2 adult brothers and a somewhat zany father who runs a diner but cut out the "coonishness" and bathroom and teenage boy type jokes and have more character development. I'm told Marlon can act when he really wants to, although Sean seems more like a limited talent poser than anything else. |

I haven't really seen enough of it to give my true opinion about the show, but from what i've seen, it was alright. Nothing to dance about.
