Does anyone else remember this segment? To my knowledge it has never been shown on any of the Lifetime repeats. It took place in a large upscale department store (I'm thinking it was in one of the southern states). A female cashier worked there for several months and was a model employee...but basically kept to herself. One night she stayed past closing (which was a little unusual) but none of her co-workers thought anything about it. The next day they discovered she had stolen all the money she was supposed to have deposited in the bank. She also may have been scimming money from the deposits for quite awhile (I only saw this segment once so I'm a little hazey on the details). When police investigated they found the woman was using a fake indentity...and had possibly pulled off similar thefts in the past. As I remember it she very heavy and police theorized she might try to lose weight to alter her appearance.

Actually, the segment was rerun on Lifetime during its first few years of cable reruns. Lifetime showed it along with the segments on Robert Kennedy's assassination and on the man who disappeared in 1988 (after telling local residents that he was going to climb a nearby mountain). Eventually, the segment was replaced with one on the crazed, unkown pickup truck driver who nearly killed a motorist in 1988.
Needless to say, I remember the segment you asked about. It aired around 1990, and the crime took place in 1986. The department store where she worked was located in Atlanta, GA. She used the name of Bonnie Wilder (or Walker), but her actual name is unknown. |
