Default "Tracks of My Tears"

"what..you haven't done anyting spontaneous in your life"

maddie dreams of her life with david. the new david she believes he will be, the way she always wanted him to be. yet she yearns for the old david.
walter bishop debutes on the train. they talk. eventualy, maddie tells walter that david is not the baby's father.
maddie is back at Blue Moon. she tells david that she married walter bishop the night before in las vegas. and the baby is not his.

pat boone did a great job as the new david in maddies dreams. he was a ward cleaver and jim anderson rolled into one.

the marriage was upsetting enough to knock the rating down a bit. nobody watching wanted that.

rating: 6.5

There are some really cool things about this episode (Maddie's hot dream of her and David in the living room---patterned right after Body Heat...replete with the music, the windchimes, the busted glass door) and how the office greets her back and even David's reaction to seeing her.... But I don't particularly care for all the Freudian stuff going on in Maddie's head about trains, husbands, and the office...I think they are trying to make you understand and symphathize with her crisis....but all I wanted at that point was her butt in L.A. with David.

Cybill/Maddie is just beautiful in this episode. And from the moment she is back in the office for real, the whole series regains its chemistry..... and even though she announces the baby isn't David's and she is married to someone else..... I know I just never believed her on either point. She may think she went through the motions of marrying someone else, but I knew it would never stick...and I knew and I firmly believe she knew that was David's baby.

I have so many mixed emotions about this one. I love Maddie's dream, of course. It was great seeing Bruce and Cybill back together again and what a reunion scene! I also loved their real reunion and how they look at each other. I also loved the things Maddie said to Walter about David. Maddie usually didn't let her guard down like that. But...then there's the ending where we're supposed to believe that Maddie is so unhinged about the possiblity of changing David or marrying him that she elopes after three days. Sorry, I can't buy it! And it was so cruel for the fans after having Maddie and David apart for months. In spite of that, I think the next three episodes after this one are very good! And I agree that Maddie knew deep down that David was the father. I think he did too, as we will see in the next episodes.

I remember adoring this episode when I first saw it, but I think that was probably only because of the reunion scene. That's one of my favorite ML scenes ever...just because of "The Look." *sigh*

Ya know....something just crossed my mind about this episode. This episode unsettled me quite a bit at the time and it wasn't just how it ended...it was throughout it, and I never could quite figure out why. But re-reading these posts, I think I know why now. During this episode, the show was playing with our emotions. There were at least 3 or 4 times there were reunions of Maddie and David...well or so we thought at first, and then they weren't real. First, right at the beginning we see Maddie walk into the office and we think this is the reunion with David...but then it is the Pat Boone David and not the real David. And then we have that Body Heat dream of Maddie that reunites Maddie with the real David....except this is a dream and not real either. And then when she finally does for real arrive at the office, we see their reunion but then they fight and David storms out. So there is still another reunion where he comes in to make up and we think FINALLY! but then we find out that they are not really reunited like we would like, since she is now married to someone else.

I guess what I am saying is there was no real reunion with the two characters that we had been waiting and waiting and waiting for. It was all an illusion of reunion. And that is what unsettled me.

I remember too being very dissapointed when Maddie said she was married when Dave was hugging and kissing her and welcoming her...
What a bummer, that ruined my mood!
(and almost the whole epi)

I saw the beginning, where Maddie comes out of the elevator and is covering her belly with her purse. I also saw the ending and it made me sad that David walked out of her office and yelled CONGRATULATIONS in such a non-believing way. (of course I understand why, but Maddies look in her eyes saddens me... )

I still have to wait for the rest to download (I know, I know, I promise to buy the DVDs when they come out You know me, I want the real deal)

It's almost on 50%, and I started before I went to London...

*sigh*

I agree that this episode is quite an anti climax all the way through. Just as you think they will be honest with each other, something happens..

I think the scene (Body heat type dream sequence) is not only a great scene but its very telling. Maddie needs David, whether she realises it or not. "I need this, I need you".

I still find it hard to believe however that she really thinks that by settling down with her, David would become a dull but dutiful husband. After knowing him for several years she should know better! David is someone with a real love of life, a spark, and if anything, she sparks him off even more!

I am having a great Moonlighting week. I am off work and abc1 just showed this episode which is another I hadn't seen before. While I think there were lots of good bits in it and I really rather liked it I agree with Cindy that its an unsettling episode. However I find myself unsettled by Moonlighting anyway, it has a way of getting under my skin and making me feel ... unsettled is as good a word as any. Maybe I am just crazy

Hi , I saw that episode too this morning .I know we all hate the fact that it`s in this one she tells David that she is married and that he isn`t the father of her baby but it`s worth watching just for the Body Heat scene!!!!.My hubby was off work today and even he came and sat down and watched that part! And the part when David places his hand on Maddies pregnant belly and gets to feel the baby for the first time(when he stills thinks it`s his child, before Maddie drops her bombshell)Priceless!
The only problem is -is that i find my self screaming at the screen when Maddie tells David that the baby isn`t his and the fact that she has suddenly married this stranger(THIS IS NOT MADDIE AT ALL) she would have never married some guy after knowing him for just 3 days .She made David wait 2 YEARS before getting between the sheets with him , it didn`t make sense then and it doesn`t make sense now to me , eveytime i watch it my blood boils > WHY DID YOU DO IT GLENN!.

I'm with you, Laura! When and if we see season 4 on DVD, it should make for some very interesting commentaries trying to explain the inconsistencies in the writing. For starters, how about Maddie telling her Mom she doesn't know who the father is, then later telling Walter the baby isn't David's.

I think it will be interesting too ,to hear the excuses that they come up with for the wrongs that happened. Having David and Maddie finally get together wasn`t the problem,it was how the writers dealt with it afterwards, it was handled all wrong .BUT i have a nasty feeling that everyone involved in those storylines are going to avoid the issue and dance around it and not discuss it.
Considering that Glenn has always said that when he wrote the character -Maddie Hayes- he had Cybill in mind, he should have listened to Cybill a bit more, she understood the character better than anyone . Cybill knew that it was totally out of character for Maddie!!I applaude her for standing up to Glenn
There`s something that Glenn says during the reunion dvd segment that bugs me .He says that it was his job to make sure that Bruce and Cybill had scenes and lines that were actable and true to their characters and sometimes that came very late -so i have 1 question for Glenn WHAT HAPPENED!. What went on in season 4 was NOT true to Maddies character at all ! Remember when McGuilicuddy got married.

In my opinion the whole pregnancy and marrriage storyline was not necessary

Glenn says something on the DVDs about incorporating Cybill's pregnancy into the show but as far as I can see that's not what happened. When she was pregnant and we could all see it we didn't know Maddie was and later when Maddie came back from Chicago Cybill had had the twins
