From what I've read, it does sound like the producers favored John over the other cast members (including Richard Kline, who found himself written out of several episodes after he asked to talk about his character's direction). The supporting cast was very good, but John was the star of the show. The other characters were ultimately replaceable (Terri for Chrissy, Furley for the Ropers, even Janet in one episode), but the show could not have been done without Jack Tripper.
Joyce DeWitt sounds pretty bitter about the whole thing. I don't know if she's deluded herself into thinking that her talent is on the same level as John Ritter's, but it's just not true. |

I'll agree that I never liked the replacement characters as much as the originals, but can you imagine what the show would have been like if they had had to replace John? Joyce has said that the producers even told her "Without Jack Tripper, there is no 'Three's Company'." Interesting point about the physical comedy, though. John Ritter won an Emmy for his work on the show (for the last season, I think), something that no one else in the cast managed. I don't think anyone else was even nominated (with the possible exception of Audra and/or Norman).

Actually, I think Joyce and John are equally talented...
