Default "Father Knows Last"

well gang, i don't have this episode.
the night it was aired, i lost my satellite due to a severe thunderstorm. so i lost reception. i missed a few minutes of it.
so, i figured i'd get it the next time it was shown after midnight, since BRAVO did that most times. it being a friday, they didn't re air it. then i figured i'd get it when they went thru the series run again. but don'tcha know, they quit "moonlighting" after this run. so, i have never been able to replace this episode. and i taped over what i did have because i was going to get the whole thing over. but it never happened.
your thoughts?

I love this episode and I hope you get to see it one day. Maddie's father guesses that David is the baby's father and comes to Blue Moon to find out his intentions. Unfortunately, Blue Moon is falling apart due to David's lack of attention (and short stay in prison). Mr. Hayes leaves with the impression that David doesn't want to take responsibility for the baby (or the business) until David corners him on an airplane trip and gives a heartfelt speech that is the highlight of the episode.

My rating is a 10.

10 from me too. Awonderful episode that is completely about David and Maddie---and the baby. Maddie's parents are also central characters here, and I love the scenes between Maddie and her mom as Maddie reveals the preganancy and the paternity issue. And the scenes between Maddie's dad and David are just what makes this a great episode. David is so hosed in this episode and then manages to pull himself together and get back on track. Thanks in large part to a strong shove from Miss Dipesto and Mr. Hayes. Go Dave, Go!

even though i boycott season 4 and 5 episodes, i do remember this one as being excellent.
the acting between david and maddies father was so real. i do remember being engrossed in spite of myself.

Those were some fantastic scenes, considering they weren't between Dave and Mads.

To me, "Father Knows Last" is a testament to how great Moonlighting's writers were. They worked so well around the fact that our leads were apart by substituting what would have been great scenes between the two of them with even greater scenes using different characters. The resourcefulness is amazing!

I just can't forget David's eyes and face when he speaks to Maddie's father. Absolutely melting... You could feel he's feelings, his concern for Maddie, for the baby... I have in my mind, now and forever. (so poetic, huh? hehehe) Great episode, one of the best!!

It was great! Did anybody else find it amazing that Maddie's father assumed David was the father without her saying a word? Seems that everyone knew it but Maddie!

One of the best scenes in Moonlighting, IMO.

Wow, I had to go back a long way to find this thread!

I was just watching this episode again on abc1 and I noticed that in his speech to Maddie's dad, David says that he asked her to marry him and she said no. When was that?

I just watched it this afternoon for the first time and that confused me too. I have missed a few episodes - was it in one of them?

Great episode

I never heard David Addison ask Maddie Hayes to marry him.

Great scene though. I believed it.

Thats ok then. I thought I'd missed something there. I wonder why they had him say it if it wasn't true.

Can anyone shed any light?

I always daydreamed (and still do) that it was Bruce who asked Cybill to marry him and she said no.

Don't I have great daydreams?

Wow, what a daydream Kismet!!

I gotta say that my Moonlighting-related daydreams aren't quite as repeatable as yours!!! Or is it just me!?!

To come back to the thread, I actually managed to watch this epi yesterday on abc1. Even tho I've seen it before, I had a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes when watching the scene between David and Mr Hayes on the plane... I just wanted to hug him after that...
