Default Why did Shelley leave?

Why did Shelley leave "Cheers?" I know she left on her own free will, but I don't understand why! Maybe it's just me, but it seems kinda dumb to leave a show midseries.

There were problems between her and almost everybody else on the show, and she wanted to work on her film career.

I think that was basically it.

That sucks. I wish she had stayed for the whole run, then we wouldn't have had Rebecca!!

Her film career was the major reason why she left.

They say that they knew she was leaving after the 5 year contract ended, right from the get-go.
Nothing was official until the beginning of Season 5, but practically the entire cast and crew knew she would fulfill her contract and move on.

For the series, I think it worked out.
With Diane we would've probably only gotten 7 or 8 seasons, which means no Frasier.

For Shelley.... bad move. She wanted to move beyond TV, but her only successful films were about a TV show!!

7 or 8 Seasons is still a good run for a sitcom. (11 is amazing!) If Cheers only ran 7-8 seasons, I still think we would have gotten Fraiser, just Fraiser would have ended a few years earlier.

If we did, it would have been completely different.
I like the way it worked out.

agreed, besides it's not like Rebecca ever showed up on Frasier.

I know that, but the other characters most likely wouldnt have been cast.
Jane Leeves was recommended because of her work on Seinfeld.
They got David Hyde Pierce after seeing him in the short-lived The Powers That Be.

And even just 4 or 5 years earlier would've made John Mahoney too similar in age to Kelsey Grammer. (image wise)
