Default Season One

Seeing as most of us have the first Season of Frasier at our disposal or have at least seen it in the past, I was wondering what everyone's opinions are on it?

I hope I'm not in too much of a minority here, but I actually regard it as one of the weaker seasons - certainly my least favourite of the early years. I understand that most of the reasons for this are just because it was finding its feet at the time, and that in fact, it's only comparatively weak. I mean, it was still good overall with some great episodes, and excellent for a debut season. However, by the show's own standards it is not among my favourites.

Niles is severely underused despite being no less hilarious than in later seasons, while Roz is also given too little a role in most episodes. Pity the same thing happened to her in the final season. Daphne is funny although a little too one-dimensional. I didn't care much for Martin's cranky old man personality at the very start, but I see that it was importnant to the story and thankfully shortlived. As for the leading man - no real problem except his hairstyle!

The script is excellent in most episodes but there are some plots that I just didn't enjoy so much, such as the one where Frasier dates the 22-year-old.

Anyone agree/disagree?

Martin: And if you and Lilith got back together, you'd be his step-father AND his brother, and Niles would be your son... and his own uncle!

It's almost worth doing just so that I can tell the story!

I don't see season one as one of the weaker seasons. Not the best of the early seasons, but much better than the later seasons.

Of the only seasons I can judge at this point (1, 2, 3, 10 and 11).... Season 1 is only behind Season 2.

I love it.
Maybe it's the hair, I don't know.
It had a very different "groove" than Season 3-7, while Seasons 8-10 had a groove of their own too. And Season 11 had yet another style to it.
This was also a very "Maris heavy" (oxymoron, I know) season, which I can't get enough of.
Just something about it makes it great.
One of the best.

Maris is ironically one of my favorite characters.

Ah, so you haven't seen all of the sublime 4 and 5 yet?

I found season 2 to be so much better, and series 3 either better than or on a par with season 2. I agree that the "Marisness" of the first season was brill. Probably one of my favourite things about it - and the early years in general.

I'm patiently awaiting Seasons 4 & 5.... *losing patients*

I watched the movie "BIG" last night and at the ending credits, they play HEART and SOUL (and during that famous piano scene, also) - I thought of Niles and Daphne

No complaints here about SEASON one! I just loved "A Midwinter's Night Dream" - my favorite of that season!

I love Seasons 2, 3, 8-10 - I really want to see seasons 4, 5, 6, 7 and 11!!!

To update myself, I have seen Season 7!

"Back Talk" is a good one! I watched that the other day...that was simply inevitable!

And the last two episodes of Season 7.....haha, LOVED IT!
