Default Brian De Palma

Brian De Palma is perhaps the most underappriciated filmmaker of the past 30 years. Everytime he releases a new movie many critics begin to sharpen their critical knives. Leonard Malten is one film critic who seems to recieve great joy from belittling the latest De Palma movie, though I've found that Malten really dosn't understand De Palma's work well enough to even be in the proper place to review it. De Palma has been accused of being nothing more then a cheap knockoff of Alfred Hitchcock (though the people who claim this not only do not understand De Palma very well, but I've found that they don't even understand Hitchcock that well), a racist, someone who hates woman and just about everything else a filmmaker can be accused of.
However with films like Carrie, Dressed To Kill, Blow Out, Body Double and Femme Fatale, De Palma has proven time and time again to be the modern master of suspense, the person who began where Hitchcock let off. De Palma has also placed his trademark style on non-thrillers such as Scarface, The Untoucables, Casualties of War and Carlito's Way.

My favorite De Palma film is 1981's Blow Out starring John Travolta.

I haven't seen any of them but Carrie, Scarface, and The Untouchables are in my Netflix Rental Queue.

I haven't seen too many of his films but my vote goes to Carrie.

Carlito's Way

It kept me transfixed -- and I've watched several times.

Jeez, I forgot he directed Wise Guys.

Depalma always got ripped for being a Hitchcock copycat, with his erotic thrillers and such, but he has made some pretty darn good movies.
Untouchables is a great film, and the first Mission Impossible was much better thatn the sequel. They sould have brought him back to do MI3.
