For the classic rock fans only-
Name a classic rock song (by an artist you like) that you never really thought was great- or even liked that much. I can name one song off the top of my head- "Cocaine" by Eric Clapton I don't see anything great about that song. From the same album (Slowhand), I think that "The Core" is a much better tune. |

Great thread, DLemond.
There are so many, but if I had to pick one, it would definitely be "That Smell" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. I must say that the advent of the "classic rock" radio format in the mid-'80s(?) really killed some songs' effectiveness, as they're spun ad nauseum by certain stations. Some classic rock stations have playlists that don't exceed 100 songs. It's really sickening. Quote:

Have you listened to the live version of "Cocaine" it is much better than the one on the album. |

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama (this song glorifies racism)
a lot of Eric Clapton's stuff, he just never truly did it for me, tho I do like Wonderful Tonight. |

You picked the one song that I really hate by Clapton, he tries to be sentimental, does nothing for me. |

At the risk of turning this thread into an anti Skynard thread, I really don't understand why they're so darn revered on classic rock radio.
Another guy I just don't get is Steve Miller and his self tiled Steve Miller Band. Abra, abracadabra. I wanna reach out and grab ya. I don't think so, Steve.

I am not that crazy about Steve Miller, tho I do like a few of his songs, most notably "Fly Like An Eagle", "Abracadabra" and "Jungle Love"

One thing I have a problem with is that they don't play newer songs by older artists. I was curious to hear what the latest albums by Tom Petty and George Harrison were like, but they never play them ("not classic enough, has to be at least over 15 years old"). It's strange that they never play the new album of 60's cover songs by Rush, "Flashback." |

"Bohemian Rahpsody" by Queen. I could never get into that one.
