Default Thoughts about morality

Since AD is a family show on a family night I thought I'd add a few thoughts on morality here to see what you all think.

Given that for some people "sin" simply means to "fall short".....

There are some, myself included, who feel that there are sins of COMMISSION and sins of OMISSION.

Sins of commission are easy.....example: You go to your neighbor's house, break in, and steal something.
You "fell short" by breaking in and by stealing. You COMMITTED things....
you did something wrong.

Sins of omission are a little harder to identify at times......example: You see someone breaking into your neighbor's house and simply walk by, not getting "involved".
You did NOTHING. You omitted effort.
You omitted doing the RIGHT thing.
Some people think they are "good people" because they "do nothing" when they know something should be done. They commit sins of omission all the time......yet try to rationalize that they "did nothing wrong".
True they DID NOTHING, but that can be "wrong" because they didn't help.

Avoiding sins of commission is fairly easy.
It's avoiding sins of omission that takes digging deeply in your heart to see who you are and what you are made of.

What are your thoughts?

A friend of mine the other day was involved in an "omission" sin.

There was a chance to make a "stand" for what was right, but because she felt pressure, she would have rather avoided the subject altogether.
Not to get gender specific with this, but sometimes women, due to their nurturing nature, don't wish to "rock the boat" and would rather just sit back meekly.
Some men know this and get away with a lot of crap because of it.

This is exactly how evil persists when it doesn't have to. What did my friend do?

She, with a little coaching from me and a "threat" to NOT continue our friendship if she wished to avoid doing the right thing, went ahead and met the circumstance with confidence.

The outcome? The situation came out fantastic. Our friendship is stronger than ever. And perhaps next time she is confronted with "what should I do" she will meet and beat the evil at hand, instead of cowering away and "not getting involved".

What if one of the ways God works is to expose us to situations to see if we make a stand for what is right, or back away and avoid taking responsible actions......thus comitting sins of OMISSION?
