Default Performers who take off their clothes

When did this trend start? I don't think Frank Sinatra ever stripped off his shirt on stage. Did Elvis? I'm guessing this sort of thing started in the 60s with maybe the Rolling Stones or the Doors or some such act. As for women I don't know of anyone doing it (stripping down to a bra) before Madonna in the 80s although there probably is someone who did. Since these days we've had everyone from The Jacksons, Isaac Hayes, rappers like Nelly, LL Cool J, Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, and pop acts like Britney etc.

Would stripping off one's shirt at a concert prior to the late 60s been considered grounds for being arrested or having the show shut down?

Yeah, sadly, it seems like taking off clothes is the fashion these days. Christina Aguilera is another singer with videos that look like borderline porn. Like, her song "Dirty".

Mentioning Frank Sinatra and Elvis made me think what if the Beatles had stripped off their shirts while onstage. I'm pretty sure they never did. But, I was just thinking, if they ever had, would it have caused all those girls in the audience at their concerts to scream louder?

Years ago the acts were more demure. Tight trousers on males was as far as it went prior to the mid 60s, although some of those stand up acts who wore suits would get a bit raunchy in their own way. As for the females form fitting dresses were about as far as it went it seems. These acts could have been drugging it up offstage and carousing but their public images were much more conservative.

It's really disgusting to when performers like Britney,Christina,Madonna,Lil kim, Christina Miilian, etc. go on stage and take there clothes off. But when it's someone like Usher, I'm all eyes

pretty much ....but it's kind of different in a way. I mean, when Usher takes his shirt off on stage it's no big deal because do that all the time and he still actually performs his songs...but when Britney/Christina/Madonna get on stage all they do is friggin take clothes off and immitate "R-rated" acts with the dancers...and the walk around with whips and stuff and it ****in gross. Thats why I refuse to go to almost every female performers (with the exception of Alicia Keys and similar R&B artists who actually perform) concerts. I hope that made some sense lol

Marvin Gaye used to strip down to his briefs in the early 80s Sexual Healing era when he was in his early 40s so this stripping thing isn't limited to young performers. I saw a picture of him in a biographical book and his pants were at his knees- he looked silly.

I find it funny that "all Madonna does onstage" is take her clothes off and do r-rated things with dancers... she hasn't done either since the Girlie Show tour in 1993.

Well Christina has the voice to pull it off. And Britney lip syncs, so.. But theyre known for being 'raunchy'- it keeps them in the headlines. No publicity is bad publicity.
