Sad No TV - HELP!!!!!

Here’s the deal: I have digital-satellite TV installed in my room but this morning when I woke up I found that I couldn’t actually turn the receiver on. I tried everything I could think of and I called the technical helpline and nothing they could suggest rectified the problem. I’ve had to book an engineer to come out and have a look at the thing and see if he can fix it. It’s gonna cost me £65 ($130) just to get the guy out. If I have to get a new receiver it’s gonna cost an extra £200 ($400).
Of course I’m p!$sed off about having to pay all this money to fix a system that I’ve only had for a year and have taken so much care with - by rights it should be working perfectly for at least another few years. But my main problem is this:
TV is my life and I now can’t watch TV for at least 3 days because the engineer isn’t coming until Tuesday. If I need to replace my satellite receiver I may not be able to watch TV for at least a month! SO WHAT THE HELL AM I GOING TO DO IN THE MEANTIME??
I need suggestions. Don’t tell me to read a book because I’ve read all the books I have and I can’t afford new ones. Listening to music is all well and good but I have to be doing something at the same time. I can’t go out because I live in the middle of nowhere and I can’t drive so I’m reliant on public transportation and I can’t afford it right now. Also, I can’t skate anymore either because I fell off my board last week and my knee still hasn’t healed yet.
If my vindictive parents weren’t so evil I could watch their TV but they won’t let me. So help me God, if I miss the last episode of ‘Tru Calling’ I will kill someone!
Help me out, guys.

Why not go to a friends house or have them tape it for you. I feel for you though. Last summer when the power went out I was so bored without my tv and not being able to use the swimming pool that I took extra long showers just to kill time.

A LOT of people in this world have never watched TV in their life. See Africa etc.

They don't have computers either.

That's not a great answer. People are used to what they grew up with. Because one segment of the population has grown up with television and another hasn't doesn't mean that those with television are any less worthy because of their interests than those who had to do without. For some it's luxury, for others, it's necessity. If that's Mossopp's interest and (he/she?) isn't hurting anyone by it, why bring in an argument about what other people have had to do without. A LOT of people in this world have never done A LOT of things.

By the way, they DO have tvs in Africa, it ain't all jungle and savages you know.

I love how y'all are telling me to "get a life". I'd kill to see how happy you'd be when you're paying $40 a month for a satalite system that doesn't work!
Would you still think it's so f##king funny when you're earning $6 an hour and you have to spend all your hard-earned cash on fixing something that, by rights, should be in full working condition!?
I bought my satalite system 1 and a half years ago. It should be working perfectly right now. If you think it's funny that I have to pay $400 to fix the f#ck#ng thing then you can go to hell!!!!!!
I've worked my arse off for minimum wage for the past 4 years. I have no f#ck!ng money and I'm about to have my home reposessed because I can't keep up my mortgage payments.
Now my TV packs in, I have to pay $400 to fix it and y'all think it's funny??????
F##k you. That's all I have to say.

WELL SAID.

Mossopp - in answer to your question, how about spring cleaning...in August? That would keep you busy. Or rearranging your furniture. I love doing that - even though I tend to put everything back the way it was before. Takes up a lot of time, though!

I don't know what your parents setup is, but how about this? They're probably on some sort of cable system. Spend 10 bucks on a divider part and a stretch of whatever length of cable line you need, and plug that into your TV while your system is down.

I think that she has her own place. And I don't blame her for being mad. Satillite fees are way too expensive and as she said $6.00 an hour sure doesn't go very far. Especially when you are living on your own! I defy anybody to live without tv! I know I couldn't! (well, I guess I could but it would not be fun)

I'm not sure, but I don't think that she does have her own place. Mossopp will clear us up on this? I think she has a room at her folks. I don't blame her in the least for being upset about the system going down, and I hope they find that they are responsible for having messed up and will make it right as soon as possible. What I was suggesting to Mossopp was a temporary semi fixit gig with tapping into the cable of her folks.

If I'm wrong about the living situation then nevermind. Eitherway, I can sure understand Mossopp for being majorly bumbed about what has happened. For example, my computer gave me trouble a short time ago, and I was some kind of way in the dumps about it!

....She lives in Scotland. It's in her location. Did you see the £ signs she had in her first post?

Besides, I don't think she'll see this tonight. It's just after 1:30am there (If I did the math correctly).
