I havnt seen the episode, but apparently she was trying to bring down a South American cartel or something and a hit was put out on her, she was near killed but was put in witness protection, but Benson and Stabler got to see her right before she left. It is one of the rare episodes that I still havnt seen.

I heard Stephanie thought that Alex was too one dimensional, and she wanted to expand as an actress, but I thought she was a great character, Casey is good too, but she certainly has a tough spot to fill in. I dont see how Alex was one dimensional, I thought that she really showed a good blend of emotions and professionalism.

At any rate, Alex was easily better than any of the female ADAs on the original series, and they were all pretty good

I thought i had something else to say...

oh thx. it was bugging me that i didnt know. i think alex is the coolest ada ever!! she was very good at playing her. im bummed that she left. i dont really like casey. and didnt that girl play a rapist in an earlier ep? i can remember seeing her. i dont know the name of the ep, but her and a couple of friends had raped a male stripper. i can swear thats her! oh well. i still like alex better. sorry she felt she had to go. but thx for telling me.

I did see the show, and ThirteenInchEscape you explained it very well for not having seen it. It was really weird, cause everyone at the precinct thought she was dead, but then she makes a brief appearance at the end to say her goodbyes before going into the protection program, the word on the street was supposed to be that she did die and the people at SVU have to keep her secret.... it was pretty sad really....

I liked Alex, but I thought her character butt heads with her superiors too much, I mean, it was good drama, but I wonder if a real ADA would have lasted as long as she did if it were real life (cause I know TV isn't real life LOL)

I like Casey too, but she is a lot more compliant than Alex ever was!

AND BTW yes JANET RULES, the actress who plays Casey did play a defendant in a rape case where the victim was a male stripper. I saw that episode too. Turns out, even tho she was involved, one of the other defendants was the instigator.

I think I read the description on TVTome, as well as seeing people discuss it.

It is very common for people to have guest starring roles before they get a main role, it has happened several times, though I am not versed enough to be able to feed you an example. (well, besides that Ice-T was a pimp in Exiled: A Law & Order Movie)

I quite like Casey, but she just had a tough spot to fill. And she wasnt always that compliant, there was the whole episode about her getting that guy off the bench.

Alex was sort of a progressive trail-blazer though, that is why I liked her. Alot of the defense attorneys are like that, but most of them are just trying to get famous (with pro-bono cases etc), I think Alex is extremely open minded, and tries to do what she thinks is right within the bounds of the law.

I'm glad they didnt kill her off like they sometimes do though, this leaves the door open for her to guest star later, assuming that most of the crime ring is disassembled within a few years.

(Claire Kincaid guest starred a few times on the original after leaving, I think Jamie Ross did also. Jamie Ross will also be a judge on the newest spinoff, Trial by Jury)

sadly...I cried too, I'm terrible at this whole masculine thing...

On a more superficial subject...god, her bangs were horrible for the few episodes of season 5 she was in

It would be very cool to have an episode in 3 or 4 years where they nail that cartel or find him dead or something, then she is out of Witness Protection and back with them
