A 1970s TV Comedy that your local TV station never picked up - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I can honestly say that this 1974 TV comedy was never ever shown in the city of Philadelphia in local syndication. And if it was i was 4 years old and under.

I'm in NYC and it seems like we got almost everything that was sold into syndication at one time or another. Chico ran here for years on what is now the FOX affiliate. Some shows never really caught on though like Room 222 but it did air here in the mid70s.

Its interesting how some old shows run for years and years (Rhoda was playing here on the WB affiliate in the late 90s) yet more recent shows like Evening Shade seem to fall into a chasm of obscurity.

Of the more recent shows we never got Malcolm and Eddie or For Your Love. There are probably some others that never showed up here that I am unaware of but almost everything gets a shot here for at least a season of offnetwork repeats.

WPIX lives during its late night rotation. We got the shows that they were on during the overnight shift:

1. "Three's Company"
2. "The Odd Couple"
3. "Taxi"

A number of stations in NYC that never picked up are:

1. "Maude"
2. "Mary Tyler Moore"
3. "Chico and the Man"
4. "Alice"
5. "Carol Burnett & Friends"

My memory doesn't really span any earlier than the early '80s, but I don't really remember very many '70s TV shows being shown in broadcast syndication.

The only ones I can think of are M*A*S*H (still showing, actually), Three's Company, Taxi, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley and WKRP In Cincinnati.

I'm pretty sure we didn't get For Your Love in syndication either. Some good points brought up in this thread shows like I Love Lucy and Rhoda continue to air to this day whereas shows like Blossom, Evening Shade and so on never seem to get aired anywhere. i haven't seen 227 in years, yet can see I Dream Of Jeanie like seven times a day.

The question was what TV Show from the 1970's was never seen in your local area. Why did you mention For Your Love?

Because someone else mentioned it when they mentioned how it seems like older shows get syndicated a lot but newer shows, like For Your Love don't.

it was shown for a short time, but, like you said, you must have been about 4 years old. WPHL showed it back in 1979 on Sunday afternoons at something like 1:30 or 2:00

Yup that's the reason, i was 4 years old in 79 which is why i knew nothing about CATM until i found Sitcomsonine.

yea, I remember, years ago, in the mid 70s, we were able to pick up a few of the TV stations in New York (I'm in Philidelphia, pa.) and I remember WPIX had a lot of reruns that weren't or hardly ever, seen on stations in my area. Shows like "Abbott & Cosstello", "The Mothers-in-Law", "Peticoat Junction" , "Burns & Allen" & "The Bill Cosby show"

I think Maude aired on WWOR9 now the UPN station for a brief period in the late 70s (I could be wrong though but I can almost swear I remember it being on and not doing well and being pulled). Mary Tyler Moore aired in the afternoons on WNBC4 in the late 70s-early 80s. Alice aired on WPIX11 (now the WB station) for many years and Carol Burnett aired on WNEW5 (now the FOX station) in the 80s and early 90s.

Since NYC is a major market almost all the syndicated shows get a shot here.
