Please help me to identify this band... - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Hello everyone. I have a somewhat strange question. Please allow me to explain...

Ok, about ten years ago, I bought a cassette tape at a used book and music store. At the time, I liked heavy metal- which I still do, actually, but at that time, I was into bad stuff. The tape that I purchased was supposed to be a band called Deicide. I don't listen to them anymore, because I am a born again Christian.

In any event, the tape inside turned out to be something else utterly. It wasn't even heavy metal music. It was a prerecorded tape of kind of esoteric, ambient music. It was a blank tape that had been used to dub another CD or tape. The music on it is haunting and beautiful, but very hard to describe. The tape started out as piano music accompanied by a male voice singing. I remember that one line of the lyrics went something like "When the leaves all fall and change to dust....". The lyrics were lovely, sort of like poetry.

But after that song, there are other quite different 'songs' that follow. They are mostly women chanting/singing, and middle eastern sounding in my opinion. The women's voices are piercing, usually low in tone, and are radiant and enchanting. Like I said, it sounds sort of middle eastern...with chimes, and instruments that sound perhaps of that region.

I do not know who this band is- please help me- if you have any clue or idea who it might be, please tell me. I want to buy their CD's...hopefully, they are still being made.

Once again, the music from this tape sounds exotic, unique, and has a lot of 'chanting'. There is one song where there appear to be two female voices singing/chanting in harmony...it sounds like they are saying "ahhhh naaaaaaaahhh neee.....eeh aahhh naaahhhh neeeeee". I know that must sound completely bizarre, but this is the best way I know to describe it. The music is so unusual that it is very difficult to describe it at all. If I were you I'd do myself a massive favour and go back to listening to Deicide!

I think you can be a Christian and listen to a band whose not. I know people who are Christians but still like Ozzy.

I totally agree.When my brothers and I went to see Metallica there was a guy handing out Christian pamphlets outside the arena. It really made me mad, I mean how dare you assume that because I'm going to see Metallica I can't be Christian. I don't recall "Thou shall not listen to metal" as one of the Ten Commandments.

I've gotten that thing, too, when I saw Black Sabbath, KISS, and AC/DC in years past. I tried to talk to them about it, but they are hardcore in thinking the music will send you to hell.

I don't feel hot yet.

the thing with KISS is what I found funniest. 90% of their songs are about partying or girls. They've had a few songs like God Of Thunder, Unholy, and War Machine that might be questionable, but I hardly see how they're Satanic

God of Thunder is about Gene Simmons being Zeus.

Unholy is a GREAT song!!!

it's a real shame Revenge didn't sell more copies. I think had that album sold Animalize or Crazy Nights numbers, we wouldn't be stuck with the embarassing "reunited Kiss", because IMO, with Revenge and Carnival Of Souls, they were better musicians than ever.

The 70's incarnation is great for nostalgia, but Psycho Circus was probably their weakest album since Unmasked IMO. They went back to being a cartoon band when they were really kicking butt in the 80's and 90's.

Actually, I don't listen to Deicide anymore. As Mr. Mackey would say..."Satan and his pals are not cool, mmmmmmkaaaaaay?".

But I do like metal- and I am not going to stop listening to it just because some folks get their panties all up in a twist over it. Yes, the truth is that some music is malefic. After all, Lucifer was in charge of music before he fell from heaven. But heavy metal has been singled out through history (albeit recent history) as being Machiavellian- but that is not always the case. I agree with you guys in regards to Oz- Ozzy Osbourne is one of my idols. In fact, I believe that he may even have a part in the ministry in his future! Like Ozzy said in the song..."It's never too late". I love Ozzy, and a good friend of mine (his name is Dave) who tragically passed away two years ago loved Ozzy, too. Rest in Peace, Dave- my brother.

I like bands like Nile and Fates Warning. Its kind of odd telling people that I am a Christian, and that I like Nile. They act as if they are skeptical about it. I am not some imbecile who just started listening to metal- I have liked metal since 1988, when I was 13 years old. I know about all the bands from the 80's and 90's....but I don't really know a lot about some of the newer bands like Mudvayne and Godsmack. I don't like Godsmack- to me, they are disrespecting God...as if they are saying they want to smack God. They are playing with fire! God is the LAST person you want to piss off- trust me. I used to be an infidel. I was raised as a Christian, but rebelled against it when I was a young adult. But a few years ago, I went back to attending Church and was born again. I am a better person because of it. I don't know if Glen Benton really is an evil man- or if he worships satan. Actually its none of my business- although I hope it is not true. I still like the music they played- but I don't approve of the lyrics.

Anyways...I did find out who that esoteric band is- It was Dead Can Dance- the album is called "Serpent Egg". It is definitely interesting music. I am very open minded and eclectic. I like classical music, like the soundtrack from "The Last Samurai"...and I like 80's pop music, and even some country and rap, among other types of music. But my favorite is metal.

I wanna get that Dead Can Dance CD. They play unique music, and I dig that.

if I recall correctly, Godsmack is actually a reference to an Alice In Chains song

That is correct, the song by Alice in Chains is a reference to smack, slang term for heroin for the unitiated. As many of us recall, Layne Staley had a very huge problem with heroin, he was insinuating that it had become his "god". I don't know how the band Godsmack uses the name other than the fact that they are big AIC fans.

Nile can go on liking Godsmack now.

Type the lyrics you know in a search engine with parentheses around them and the whole song and the band who it's by might just pop up...least that's what I always do, usually works.
