Remember when Lisa Whelchel decided thar she did not want to go any further with her acting? In 1989 or something like that after she married. And if any of you's know about her she became a very strong christian..and really payed attention to her religion and was highly focused on it. Now I just saw on news this morning that when they were showing hot sauces that are great and all..the news people were saying that Lisa Whelchel was using that on her kids tounges everytime they said something bad or anything like that. She was there too so I guess they brang it up today. It is in her book about raising children and how she raises hers. She follows the bibile very strictly I know and I already knew some of this stuff. But do any of U's think Lisa has gone a little too religious? Like more of semi wacko? I don't wanna believe it but the new people were saying that it's barbaric...even though I was kinda upset that they were mocking Lisa aka Blair on TV. Still...what do you all's think about this?? It really caught my interest today. Sorry guys but the FOL message boards aren't too active so I posted it here so some ppl can read it.

i did notice the hot sauce thing. That seems kind of extreme, just like washing kids mouths out with soap. But in most adults' eyes, there's nothing wrong with that. But I believe there is. Just my opinion. So in that respect, I disagree with Lisa. Even if she used to be Blair, and even if she knows Nancy REALLY WELL. I don't take back my beliefs even for a well known celebrity, who I am still very fond of. I just don't agree with her methods.

I hate to disagree, but no, I don't think that Lisa Whelchel has gone wacko at all. She's just leading the life that God has planned for her. I'm a Christian myself, and I think she's doing just fine, from what I've read.
I personally don't think that it's a good idea to put hot sauce in kids mouths, but then again, I don't have kids, and I certainly am not raising Lisa Whelchel's kids, so I don't know the difficulties she's had with their language. Short of anything abusive, of course, which I really don't think hot sauce is, I don't think I should make judgements about anyone else's parenting. |

In my opinion I don't think lisa went "Wacko" with the religion thing. She's living the life style that she wants and I don't have a problem with that.
The hot sause in the kids mouth I have heard of. I don't agree with it but I don't exactly think it abuse. |

Btw, she's been a Christian since she was a kid, before FOL, so this isn't something she picked up afterwards.

I, personally, don't have a problem with the hot sauce thing. Maybe that's because I like hot sauce...I dunno. I probably wouldn't do it to my kids. But yeah... As for the religion thing...she's living the way she wants to. That doesn't mean everyone has to agree with it. I mean, I believe in God and the Bible and stuff but I can't say that I follow the Bible very strictly or anything. I have respect for Lisa and the fact that she's so religiously enriched. So, I guess it depends on the way you look at it. |

I think it's cool the way Lisa is out there with her religion. Most celebs won't do that b/c they think it will ruin their image or something.
As far as being "too religious" or "wacko" or whatever you wanna call her...That is the way it is supposed to be, if you are a christian of course. Jesus died for us, so we are supposed to live for him. There is no such thing of being too religious. I think that is what makes Lisa a great role model. There are very few who acutally do that. I know me myself should take some pointers from her...lol... And the hot sauce...that's a good idea...I'd probably use tabasco sauce myself...lol...I bet those kids will watch what they say next time.... This is all just my point of view on the while subject....

I think she is contradicting herself. She is OH SO religious which is perfectly fine...but then puts hot sauce in her kids mouthes if they say something bad? I don't think that's how God would handle it. lol And besides, I had every intention of using no...."curse words." But once you get older...and out in the real world more...that is just TOO IMPOSSIBLE sometimes! I think Lisa needs to realize that. Now I'm not saying that I think her kids need to swear like sailors, I'm just saying if they have a slip or two don't grab for the red bottle so fast, ya know? And I wish I would have seen that thing on Jimmy Kimmel where they mentioned Jo. lol

Just because she's religious doesn't mean she can't punish her kids. Using hot sauce is a hell of a better way of punishing them than beating them half to death just because they said a bad word. I mean, I would say that talking to your kids and sending them to their room is a better solution but after a while it gets old and kids start to realize that. And about going out there into the real world and it being impossible to refrain from cursing: It is possible to refrain from doing such a thing. I think Lisa's trying to raise her kids in a way so that when they go out into the real world, they'll be stronger morally than any other person and won't give in to temptation as easily. I think she's trying to build them up as strong Christians so that when those situations come along, they'll be strong enough to do what God has intended them to do. |

I agree with Snowfall, Maria, and consentida. I don't think Lisa puts Hot sauce everytime they do something bad, just when maybe they say something bad, and are useing it in a way or perpous that is to hurt someone else. I can see putting hot sause for that. It would teach them to think twice before useing that word again. I don't think that abuse. I mean 20 years ago it was okay to spank your child.. I am one who was spaked, and it wasn't used to REALLY hurts me, but to teach me what I had done was wrong. And just cause my mom spanked me doesn't mean that I am gonna be some mass murder, or that what she did to me was abuse. Now if, I had kids would I spank them no, because I would be sitting there cry with them, and well that wouldn't teach them a thing.
When my cousions were two and tree the one went up to my mom, and call her the 'b' word, and then he walked up to my sister later smacked her in her face, and once again called her the 'B' word. See and those kids only get time out. BUt there becomes a point were you have to find another way of puinshing them. I mean one yeah the three year old thought it would be cool to try, and clime the christmas tree, I however funny that may sound and yes, the christmas three fell over on top of him he could have been hurt badly, and part of that is that there parents don't have control of them. The lil girl is a lil better. and now the two older kids are like in grade school still as bad. but any way that one one more kid, and once again comes form not being watched all the time... He must have been one, and with two other kids harder to watch the lil one. So they were making fries in the deep fryer, and the lil one year old pulled it over on himself, and was burned really badly. And had to have stiches. I guess my point is at some point you have to find another way to punish your kids. I am not saying to beat them... but something, and something they don't like. WIther that's cleaning reading from the bible.. or whatever... However non of those kids have been babtized. THey don't have in beliefe in god. Yes, I was babtized, and everything else. But my side of the family didn't go to church, however, I still have a huge beleife in GOD, and still do. And yes, I believe that God sent his only son to be crusuifed for us sinners. He died for us so that we could make mistakes, and realize them, and repent or whatever your beliefe might be. Even though I didn't have a huge amount of going to church as a child. I still got the bible and I used to read from it every night. I stoped doing that about a year ago, but I still believe. And it was also my choise that when I did get married even though I was living in sin that I wanted to be married in the church in front of GOD my family, and friends. That's was real Important to me. I think Lisa uses the bibal as she was teached to use the bibal to grow, and learn. She became a Christian when she was ten.. My guess was by her choise. And I read that she said that when she was younger God wanted her to act, and that's why she did it. By 12 She was on FOL... If, I have my info rite, and may not. After facts was over she was in church, and she said she hurd God ask her if, she would marry her husband... and she thought what?? No way she wasn't even atrackted sp to him... but I think by july just a few months after her last show on FOL. From there God said it was time for her to raise her family, and she had three, and she said she was told she would be a stay at home mom, and she thought well I guess I will never work again... BUt then people kepts telling her she needed to write a book. And even though she didn't want to leave her kids, she decided to get a job again. I just think she is trying to teach her kids right from wrong. AS any good parent would teach their child. DO I think she would like for her childrean to grow up, and be Christians yes I do. But something that I think even she knows is that it's going to have to be their choise. She can only teach them what she knows, and thinks is best, and hope that they can grow, and come to their own conclusions good or bad. The thing about the curse words. However much I believe in GOd, and all. I don't think all together curse words are all bad, but I don't think lil kids should go around saying them either. BUt for example say the S word. I mean some people say poo or poop.. or whatever it the same thing except it's the s word. LOL I mean but if it's the f word i say it, but *bad me* and it is a very crude word. Ya know? ANd yeah I personaly don't be the B word either, but If, it's meant in a degrating sp way or to hurt someone, but yes, it's mean, and that's what the person meant it to be. And yes, I know a lot of people who are very relgious, and do NOT use cruse words, and they are grown ups. So if, being that religous is something you decided then I will respest that.. and refraim from or trying not to cuss around that person. Being Christan doen't have anything to do with any kinda of abuse or anything else. Have people used their relgious beliefs to do bad, OH YEAH! JUSt look at the KKK. I guess my point is... there a lot worse things then putting hot sauce in your kids mouth. |
