I just bought the Munsters on DVD today and I have to say that Universal did a great job with this release!!! Any plans for the Addams Family on DVD???

Hi, can you please tell me if you are expereinceing any technical problems with your new Munsters DVD?
I noticed on DISC 1 SIDE B Episode #9: "KNOCK ON WOOD, HERE COMES CHARLIE" The sound is very low on this episode than the others.

Also in the next episode "AUTUMN CROAKUS" Right after they show Starring Fred Gwynne's name in the opening credits & it's about to show the title of the episode in front of the house, the music cracks for a split second.

Does these two things happen on your DVD or is it just my DVD?
Can you please check & also let me know about any other problems that you may have noticed?

Yes Jack77, that does happen on my DVD. But please, take in mind, that the original film IS 40 years old. And they did make the episodes un-cut on the DVD. So the best thing you can do is just enjoy the episodes and don't focus on how good or bad the DVD looks or sounds. Just enjoy the talented work of Fred Gwynne, Yvonne De Carlo, Al Lewis and the others.

It does not matter if these film prints are 40 years old! The Wizard Of Oz is over 70 years old & it looks much better on DVD than the Munsters!
But the problem here is not with the quality of the Munsters prints. It's the technicalities of the new DVD itself!

Yes the original prints from 1964 have been remastered & of course they could have looked much sharper on DVD, but Universal really rushed this first season DVD set out in order to meet the 40th Anniversary.
That is why we are having problems with the audio. Someone in the audio department goofed & was not paying attention to make sure that each episode's volume matched!

Gilligan's Island which is also 40 years old and had it's first season released on DVD by Warner Bros. in Feb. is a much better put together DVD set. Not only do the prints look much sharper than The Munsters, but the sound & quality of the DVD are excellent with no flaws & Universal should have taken the same route with The Munsters on DVD.

The same thing goes for the cover art! I like the dark green design of the cover, but why mess with the original photo image?
They should have just used an original photo of the cast like WB did with the Gilligan DVD.

Although it's cool to see the rare color pilot, it would have been nice to see the other 2 black & white unaired pilots and some CBS promo reels from the first season as well as home movies & still shots along with production notes from that season.

Let's hope that Kevin Burns is reading our comments & suggestions and is now working closely with Universal & he will make sure that the second season is a much better set loaded with tons of extras that will keep us true Munsters fans happy for a very long time...

The original prints could be damaged. Did you ever think of that? But I do agree with you. The DVDs could have been much better. We can contact Universal studios and ask them to redo the set for us, and tell them to make it MUCH better this time. I still really don't think the prints look bad at all! Yes they could have been as sharp as the Gilligan's Island DVD, but they do look remastered. If you want to talk about bad prints, just watch the first seasons of Green Acres or the new Happy Days DVD set. Now those are crummy old crummy dirty prints!
My problem with the Munsters DVD Set is that the volume is too low on some of the episodes & this could have easily been avoided had someone at the Universal Home Video Dept. done their job & monitored each episode transfer before allowing the final cut to be added to millions of DVD Copies!

Another thing that Dirtpod mentioned that it is unlikely that the other Munsters pilots will be released on DVD because of the poor quality from the very first color pilot???
Dirtpod, have you even seen the remastered pilot on the new Munsters DVD set?
Universal really did the best they could with the color pilot by remastering it & it looks as if it were filmed yesterday!

I don't know why they did not include the other 2 lost B&W pilots on the first season set, since it has Beverley Owen in it?
Oh well, here's hoping the season 2 set will contain the two lost B&W pilots that Universal does own the rights too and could easily add on after they remaster it!

Well, what he meant was, that because the color pilot was in such good condition, they don't need to use the B&W Presentation, which is just the same episode turned into B&W. But then there was the pilot with Yvonne De Carlo. Which I really think SHOULD BE in Season 2.

Why is there a discussion of the Munsters DVD, when this board is SOLEY for Addams Family? Do TAF Fans a favor and take this discussion to the Munsters board.

Now, to the original question .... yes, I would LOVE to see the Addams Family hit DVD SOON!

Yeah but a movie is completely different, lots of old movies like the Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind and such have been restored, they weren't in the greatest condition till they were restored, if they did this with a tv show dvd it would jack the price up so high no one would want to buy it
