I noticed that today's tv shows arent as down to earth as they used to be. Now a days, they use only sexy-type actors and actresses (most of the time). Some shows dont do down to earth topics. ANybody else think the same or different as me?

I think most of today's sitcoms are not as good as the sitcoms from ten to fifty years ago. Nowadays the prime time line-ups are too rich in reality TV shows. The dramas have been excellent the past few years, though, and keep getting better. There's a lot of them I'm looking forward to this season.

I think today's sitcoms are very true to life.
I spend my day surrounded by young and thin hot people. Don't you?

It looks like writers have run out of good ideas and are now using all the ideas writers in the 50s-80s threw away. Depressing.

Current Sitcoms I Like:
Arrested Development Curb Your Enthusiasm The Simpsons Scrubs The Drew Carey Show 8 Simple Rules According To Jim My Wife and Kids George Lopez Less Than Perfect The King of Queens Two and a Half Men The Bernie Mac Show South Park But there only a select few that I'd put up as being "good shows". (Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Simpsons, and Scrubs) I enjoy the others, but they aren't anything that would be Emmy-worthy. Other Current Shows I Like: Saturday Night Live Last Comic Standing Reno 911! Chappelle's Show Late Night with Conan O'Brien The Late Show with Dave Letterman The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn Crossballs Survivor (not as much anymore) The Amazing Race (not as much anymore) Crank Yankers (not as much anymore) |

TV has ALWAYS had attractive people on it since the '50's (Lucy and Desi), Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore in the '60's, Mary again in the '70's, and so on...
I think in today's world, people are placing more and more of an emphasis on sex appeal, and sadly, less and less of an emphasis on talent. I read a great article around the time of the Friends finale this past May talking about the negatives Friends has brought to TV. One of the top items on that list was "Good Looking People are Good at Comedy." They proceeded to mention Lucille Ball, Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, and Bill Cosby were all great comedians and attractive people, but you don't always have to be good looking to be funny. Maybe the TV industry will someday understand that! |

The now cherished "fat gut/hot wife" sitcom formula prooves that.
I dont find the wife funny on any of those shows. Whereas on the few that I like, the husband gets all the laughs. |

I wouldn't really consider The Drew Carey Show current, considering they are just buring off episodes that were filmed about a year or two ago. and the fact that its done after this summers run.

Well its currently airing new episodes, so I consider it current.
They were filmed during the 2003/2004 TV season by the way. |
