She was a scream especially when she slammed Louise. But Louise can hold her own against her as well. Frankly I liked that Louise much better than the snobbish one she became in the later seasons.

What got to be too much on The Jeffersons was Tom and George's friendship. I did not like them as a comedy duo on the show. The Willis' and the Jefferson's together made good comedy but the men alone was idiotic.

Yeah the friendship of Tom and George made me want to change the channel.

She never did try to get along with Louise. She didn't care that she was her son's wife.

That's because she felt George could do better than Louise.

I didnt like Mother Jefferson. I mean what does she have to complain about? Her son owned Dry Cleaner stores and lived in an awesome apartment. Not only that, why was she always mad at Louise? Its not like she cheated on George or spent all of his money.

We never really had "large doses" of Mother Jefferson, so to me, it's not really something any of us had to worry about. She'd pop on, deliver a few lines, usually kissing up to George and putting Louise down, then disappear until the next episode.

I think Mother Jefferson had just the right amount of screen time. For me, sitcoms go south when they start using supporting players too much. For example, Fonzie was a great back-up character when Happy Days started, but when he took over the show, they lost me as a viewer.

How often do you we need to see the main character's mother?

She was not needed at all.

The way Mother Jefferson treated Louise was disgusting. M.J. should have been ecstatic her son married a woman like Louise, who had such a big heart and character. I think Mother Jefferson was jealous of Louise. I give Louise a lot of credit for her amazing self-restraint; because Mother Jefferson could be a real piece of work.

In spite of the above though, M.J.'s screen time was just about right.

I guess she is one of those mothers that has a disliking towards the wife her son has chosen to marry. it happened 1 time when my brother married his girlfriend in 2005. my mother didn't approve of the marriage and of her. but overtime, she got over it and they get on well with one another.
