Janet could be rough on Jack, but she was NOT a bitch. Don't listen to Vegas Girl, Mrs. Ralph Furley, she doesn't know what she's talking about!

Read the examples of her behavior in the "Terri" post. All true.

I didn't have time to list them all.

How can you say she WASN'T bitchy, bossy, and/or condescending?

I don't think Janet was like that, at least I never noticed it. Janet could get bossy sometimes, but she works at a flower shop, I can understand that. I thought Janet was a great character, she was so relatable, and just really down-to-earth. She's one of my favorite characters

If that's the way they wanted her character to be, I think Joyce did a fine job portraying her. However, I still think JANET was more snotty than sweet.

and we are entitled to ours, just like she is.

I don't think Janet's a bitch, I think she was just spunky and wanted to keep everything under control (keeping Jack from fooling around with roommates). She could get a little jealous at times, or snotty, but who doesn't?

She had moments of sweetness, and I wouldnt say she was "A bitch" but she was definately bitchy and controlling, and couldnt trust anyone. i realize that alot of the time Larry caused the situation to look like Jack was terribly at fault (in some way or another), but it frustrated me how Janet could never come out and say anything, you would think after all the time, she would have learned to say exactly what she thought was going on.

Then again, that would have destroyed the premise of the show

and I think it should be pointed out that just because someone thinks Janet's a bitch doesnt mean that they think she is a bad character

Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, and in mine Janet was Not a bitch.

Yes, she got tough sometimes, & was bossy on other times. But she had good intentions. And she was infact the only roomate you could actually count on. She was smart, sensible, reliable & always ready to help.

In fact if her character would have been protrayed as anything other than what she was then not only would the show ever become successful but it would been the one of the most idiotic. I think every comedy needs a balance & Janet was just that for Three's Company. Infact while Cindy, Chrissy & Terri did get on my nerves sometimes, Janet was the only female roomie that didn't.

And one more thing is that this show aired in the 70s, unlike today it was not very open to the concept of a single guy living with two single women, they needed someone like Janet to keep everything in check. Who knows, if they didnt have someone like her, maybe something not so smart would have happened between the Jack & his girl roomies that would have put a ban on the show. lol.

She was bossy at times, but, in my opinion, the good far out weighs the bad with Janet. As Jjlover said, she was "smart, sensible, reliable & always ready to help." She had some negative things to her, but everyone does. Overall, though, she was a great person.

That's my opinion. I have come to the final conclusion that Janet rocks. Not that this is related to this topic, but I just can't see how Chrissy was the most popular character in the show when it came out in the 70's. According to something I read. She's my least favorite.

If you read the book Come and Knock on Our Door Joyce DeWitt was not happy about the way Janet came off heavy handed in the early seasons of Three's Company. She fought the producers and writers to soften Janet. I did not like Janet when the show first came on. She was too controlling and came across parental towards Jack and Chrissy. Then when she had her hair curly she was looking too plain and still controlling and bossy.

When the fourth season rolled around she cut her hair and wore it straight like Joan Jett with it spike. Janet became more likable and loosen up. The new hairstyle and more bolder in her wardrobe gave Janet a new lease on life.

The fifth season during the Suzanne Somers drama you can tell Joyce was not having a great time. Janet became more grounded as a person.

The sixth season came when Terri moved in and Janet definitely was getting hotter to watch as she did more hair changes and dressing up better.

The seventh and eighth seasons Janet became more mature and not needing to be controlling and acting like a den parent. Her hair got longer and was wearing shorter skirts. Wow!!!

The character of Janet took off to a whole different level when Priscilla Barnes came on. So many people knocked Priscilla but if you watch the chemistry between Joyce and Priscilla it is much better than it was with Suzanne Somers. The first three seasons they gave Janet that plain Jane look to give Suzanne (Chrissy) the attention.

Personally I preferred Janet over Chrissy anyday. Joyce DeWitt is far better looking and attractive than Suzanne Somers. Today Joyce still looks hotter than ever.

If you watch every season when Joyce DeWitt changed her hairstyle she was changing the character of Janet through that. The writers wanted to keep Janet the way she was in the early seasons.

Every sitcom needs to have a voice of reason. Janet was the one.

I think Janet was the exact opposite of the voice of reason, in fact, she was always the one believing in completely outlandish things and causing the misunderstandings

Also, I thought Janet was by far the most attractive in the first season, I thought she was very goodlooking then, but it was downhill from there, she also looks as if she has aged terribly, that must just be me though, in the thing she does on the season two DVD her face is sunken in, she looks like she has been overstressed, seeing as she has spent the last 20 years doing virtually nothing, I dont know what could have given her such a stressful existance.

I swear I do like Janet, but I dont think the show had a voice of reason, if anything, I think the fact that Chrissy was unable to understand complicated issues mae her the closest thing to a voice of reason (until Terri showed up). Janet and Jack always got crazy ideas about what was going on, and Chrissy tended to look at things exactly how they were, which was more reasonable then the things Jack and Janet thought were going on.

That's just plain ******** there was nothing wrong with janet. she just had a bad temper and wanted to make sure nobody was getting out of hand, but she was sweet and caring and very funny.

I agree with Thirteen Inch about Janet believing the outlandish. She often eavesdropped on people's conversations, then jumped to the wrong conclusion. She needed to mind her own business.
