I think that most serious film fans would rank the late Stanley Kubrick as one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. His movies were not always appreciated by the mainstream public at first (both Lolita and The Shining actually performed poorly at theaters) and even critics disliked some of his films at first (2001 and The Shining both recieved generally poor reviews) and the very underrated Eyes Wide Shut was panned by both the public and many critics. However, Kubricks films have stood the test of time and are as great today as when they were first released, if not better in that many of his greatest movies were before their time. When most filmmakers were making screwball comodies and crowd pleasing action films, Kubrick was making films about the meaning of the cosmos, the sexual obsession a middle aged man feels for a 16 year old girl and the dangers of deadly weapons in the hands of the wrong people.
My favorite Kubrick film is 2001:A Space Odyssey with Lolita in a close second. What is your's. This list does not include Kubrick's earlier and lesser known films like The Killing and Paths Of Glory, but I included the option of others just in case one of these films is your favorite. |

I think he was a good director, but the criticism come because in my opinion, his films were a little too complicated to really follow. That is why I voted for "Full Metal Jacket." It is the only film by Kubrick that I have watched from beginning to end. Again this is just my opinion.

I've seen Dr. Strangelove, 2001, The Shining, and Eyes Wide Shut.
Dr. Strangelove is the ultimate black comedy. 2001, I liked but it is probably the slowest movie I've ever seen. If I read the novel, I might have a better understanding of it. The Shining was excellent, although I wish it would have been a little more faithful to the Stephen King novel. Eyes Wide Shut is longish but I liked it. The only thing that kept me watching was the endless sex.

Stanley Kubrick was, hands down, one of the very best directors in my opinion. I've seen all of those films and, although I'm a diehard horror fan.. I'm going with Full Metal Jacket.

Being a Space Adventure buff, I have to go with 2001.
But I also like Full Metal Jacket and Dr. Strangelove. |

from a technical standpoint, he never topped 2001 or Clockwork Orange, but The Shining would be my personal favorite.

My favorite Kubrick film is "Full Metal Jacket," but it is probably not one of his best. That honor would better be bestowed upon "Dr. Strangelove," "A Clockwork Orange," or "2001." Although I have seen all three, I'm not too crazy about any of them.

Definitely Full Metal Jacket. In the immortal words of Seargent Hartman, "You owe me for one jelly doughnut!" Man those phraises bring back memories.

I'm glad to see so many responses to this poll! However, it comes as a surprise that as of this point that Full Metal Jacket is the film that has recieved the most votes. I never realized it was that popular of a movie. I expected either The Shining, 2001 or Dr. Strangelove to recieve the most votes.
