Kylie Minogue's Body Language - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Earlier this year Kylie Minogue released the follow up to her very popular 2001 album, Fever. The new album is called Body Language and was very important to Ms. Minogue because Fever was her first popular album in America since her debut way back in 1988. How Body Language performed on American charts would go along way in determining Kylie's future here in the states. The album sold poorly.

I bought Kylie's dubut album, simply called Kylie, in 1988 after seeing the video for her cover of Little Eva's 1960's classic "The Loco-Motion". Though it was certianly not a great album, the Kylie album had a number of good songs on it. A little more then a year later Kylie released her second album called Enjoy Yourself. It failed to even chart in the United States. I never even knew this album had ever been released until many years later. After the huge sucsess of Fever in America Kylie's record company released a greatest hits album in 2003. I bought this hits package and really liked it. I finally had the chance to hear the songs that we had never gotten to hear over in America. Earlier this year I picked up a copy of Fever and just fell in love it. Two weeks ago I went to the local Tower Records and picked up Body Language. I was so excited to hear this album after how much I had loved the hits album and Fever.

Well, Body Language is an AWFUL album! I simply could not believe how bad it is. There isn't a single song on the disk that even comes close to being good. The album's lowest point is a song called "Secret" in which Kylie actaully starts rapping, it was just terrible. With the possible exception of Van Halen III and Def Leppard's Slang, I have never been this let down by a CD. Any of you out there who have heard Body Language, what do you think? Is it just me or is this album really as bad as I think. I should mentioned that I've listened to the album two more times, but it hasn't grown on me.

Body Language grew on me, the first time I heard it I HATED it. But I probably like a good 60% of the album. The only problem was Kylie wasn't sure what she wanted to be on the album. Her previous albums were one genre or another. With this album, she doesn't know if she wants to be r&b or 80's funk. But, I think she merges both genres well. I think Body Language is the type of album someone like Beyonce SHOULD release. Chocolate in particular shows that Kylie Minogue is capable of making very good believable r&b music.

Give it another chance, you'll like more songs the more you listen.

if you want another Fever style album, get the import-only 2000 release Light Years. That is the album that brought her back to the forefront in the UK

I think I've heard the "Red Blooded Woman" song. I don't remember for sure if I have or not. I don't care much for her recent work. I like the older stuff of the 1980s better. I like some of her recent songs like: "Hand On Your Heart" and "Breathe". My fave album by her is the one called "Kylie". I love all the tracks on that album. Especially the songs: "I Should Be So Lucky", "Locomotion", "Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi", "It's No Secret", "Got To Be Certain", "Turn It Into Love" and "Look My Way".

Thanks, I think I will. Some record company should rerelease her earlier albums. Though 1989's Enjoy Yourself has been out of print (or so I was told) for about 13 years in America, I've heard it thanks to the local Library having a copy and I think that it might have been her best album. The songs from that album that appear on the greatest hits album are "Hand on Your Heart", "Wouldn't Change a Thing", "Never Too Late" and "Tears on My Pillow".

well, I think the reason most of her albums haven't seen the light of day in the US is because the record labels don't generally consider Kylie a priority artist. Plus, the majority of her American fans have already bought the albums on import. Even tho Fever was successful, it didn't quite put her in a level of Britney or Beyonce fame here.

tracks I liked off Body Language:
Slow (definately a shocking single choice... the techno goddess goes chill-out)
Still Standing (sounds VERY Prince inspired, I could've seen Vanity 6 doing this is the day)
Secret (yes, the rap is cheesy but the song is fun, and the Lisa Lisa reference is cool)
After Dark (Kylie out-Beyonce's Beyonce)
Chocolate (proves that Kylie can do sensual r&b just as good as anybody)
I Feel For You (cute, fun, and very spring-ish. Not the Prince/Chaka song)
Obsession (fun and dancy)
