What is the possibilty that I can buy a DVD, then get someone who has a DVD\VCR combo to copy my DVD to a blank tape? Cause my mother is getting us a DVD system in December!

I do not want to wait that long to watch this DVD I have in mind, so I am going to buy the DVD(I have the money right now and know where to get it), and then ask one of my friends to take it home with them, put it in their machine, and copy the DVD onto a blank tape(I buy the blank tape, also

), and give it to me when they are done with it. Do you think this is gonna work?

Most DVDs are MacroVision-encoded, which means that recording them onto VHS is next-to-impossible.

No, what I'm going to do is have them put the DVD in their DVD player, put the blank tape in the VCR and then press "Record" The VCR should "see" the image that comes on the TV and record it onto the tape, just like when you tape your favorite shows.

unless you're really tech-geeky and know how to get around macrovision... not gonna happen

What's going to happen is that the image appearing from the tv is the one to be recorded, instead of the one coming from the dvd

But I called a electronics store, and they told me it was possible for me to copy a DVD unto a VHS.

Let's see. One time I tried that the picture was all red. Another time my DVD Recorder gave me a little message that said "copy-protected."

It's possible with homemade DVDs that you don't copy protect...or really cheap ones. But that's it.
