Default Which character is the most pathetic?

As much as we love these characters, this show does, of course, take place in a bar.

Personally, I find Rebecca to be frustratingly pathetic, somehow, she comes off as being more pathetic than:

Norm, who spends all his time in a bar drinking ridiculous amounts to try to avoid his general unemployment and unhappy marriage.

Cliff, who lives with his other and whose only dedication is to the postal service.

Sam, a retired mediocre pitcher who realizes he hasnt really accomplished anything.

The other characters are funny, but rebeccas complete lack of success and general self pity just annoyme

Early Rebecca was slick and cool, but that was all out the window at the end of Season 6, when she colapses in front of Evan Drake.

My vote would have to go for Rebecca -- a self-pitying whore (basically). Marrying for money is the same as being a whore.

Whores are far better than women who marry for money.

At least prostitutes are honest about their intentions

Ive seen neither, with no interest in seeing the Passion.
The other.... maybe someday.

But I DO take my comment back, Id take Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman over Rebecca ANYDAY.

Although he was a great character, Norm has to be the most pathetic. He was a closet alcoholic and avoided his wife at all costs.

But the oddest thing about Norm is that you rarely see him sloshed. And if he is, so is everyone else.

Have you ever noticed that all of the "gimmick" jokes center around Norm?

How much beer he drinks, how big his tab is, how long he has been going there, and how bad his relationship with Vera is.

Norm also brings rise to alot of continuity errors, but I think that is mostly because it is kind of a legend how long he has been going there.

Norm is definately pathetic though, it is also pretty ridiculous that Norm and Cliff live vicariously through Sam's shallow life

All the characters are pretty pathetic. It's a bar for losers. And that's what I love about it.

The only character I would call "pathetic" is Rebecca. When you think about it, all of the other characters were pretty content with their lives. Norm just wanted to sit around and drink all day, Cliff wanted to be the best Postal Carrier ever, and Sam wanted to play up the chicks. They all seemed happy which is all I can wish for myself in 10 years. Rebecca however had this huge buisness career ahead of her, and then when her plans failed she pretty much quit trying. The others belonged there, but I don't think she did.

Reading that back to myself it sounds kinda stupid but that's how I think of the Cheers gang. And I must say that I agree with you Chambers.

Oh gee, it's a toss up between Rebecca and Paul!

Rebecca whined too much, IMO!

Paul was just... come on, he got pushed around by Cliff Clavin! That's pathetic!!!

Good point. Especially about Norm.
He loved beer, and he loved the bar.
Just because he loved them more than Vera doesn't mean he's pathetic.
He loved Vera for sure, but he just loved his beer more.
Norm was a drunk, not an alcholic.
There's a difference.

No, that's not stupid at all. Actually, that makes perfect sense. The part about Rebecca - not the part about agreeing with me hehe. I guess Becky definitely gets the award.
