Default Thank You For Being A Friend

Hi everyone - I'm new here, so I hope my request hasn't already been answered earlier on.

The only channel to show re-runs of The Golden Girls in the UK is LIVINGtv, and they insist on showing the medium length opening credits before every episode. This version lasts for about 40 seconds. However, I believe in the States, Lifetime shows the long and short versions quite regularly. I would be very pleased if some kind soul in the USA would be able to do me a high quality, stereo recording of these two versions (especially the long version). If you can do it, please get in touch. If possible, I'd like the themes in MP3 format, with a quality of 320Kbps 44 kHz, if you can!

Many thanks.

What you are looking for should be here on the site, go to the main page and click G and scroll down to The Golden Girls and there are several media files available.

Thanks for that. I downloaded the music files, but sadly they are the low quality mono copies found all over the web. I'm really after someone who could do very high quality recordings for me.

Oh this song moves me. I'm getting so emotional right now. I should call my mom. She looks like Sophia.

I feel that it is time to come clean on something only the elite fan has knows. It is said that if you play the average lengthed version backwards that there is a secret message to be heard. But there is a list of duties that must be carried out in absolute precision. It is dire that these be executed with finesse and determination. I trust you, my brothers and sisters, to stay true to yourselves and the girls as you attempt these obstacles to grasp that audible euphoria that await you.

My friends...

1. Lather your walls with caulk and Fat Free Philadelphia Cream Cheese so as to block any unwanted radio waves etc. from traveling through your favorite GG viewing area. But it must be Fat Free! The lipids in regular only draw in more unwanted frequencies.

2. Insert in a copy of the Wizard of Oz and make sure it's set for the first chapter. Leave it paused there.

3. Start heating some kettle popcorn. If you start now both you and the popcorn will be done at the same time! A hearty way to motivate yourself to a speedy job well done!

4. Now it's all about veteran 'Girls viewing skills and the drive to crack this code. You have exactly 6:38 to complete these tasks.
Let's go!

a. Grab two couches and place them at a 79 degree angle 3 and a half feet from the television. (This is pertinent as much as it may seem not to be)

b. We should get this out of the way before I or you forget. Use the restroom. Rid yourself of all wastes and all gasses that may have the capability of busting the linens. Believe me there's nothing worse than a loose one coming out during a good Betty White scene.

c. Clear the room of any animals. They are dumb and incapable of comprehending the sophistication that is the Golden Girls.

d. Take enough shots of something hard to ensure that your BAC is .15 There should be a slight ringing in your ears which will fine tune the secret message that these Girls wanted only the dedicated to hear.

e. Double check everything. There's no room for error. If you've made it this far there's no reason to mess up now!

f. Your 6:38 should almost be up. If not then give yourself a pat on the back and wait for that kettle to get crackin'! I tend to let my mind think of the great stalks that beared this delectable treat!

5. Bring the matured popcorn to your 79 degree separated couches and place the bowl at the center. Place your mp3 formatted medium length opening credits compact disc in a compatible instrument and press play. Also press the play button to that great wives tale that is the Wizard of Oz. Roughly 3 seconds into each there should be a distinctive synchronization.

This is where I leave you my fellow Gal Pals. In a home of inebriated warmth, cheese caulked walls, acute angled couches, and a bowl of fluffy goodness to experience what few prestigous ears have heard. This is what put me on that next level of Golden Girl fandom and what is, I feel, my duty to pass on to the next generation of GG'ers.

I wish you all the best.

For those of you unfamiliar with Andrew Gold's long version of the GG theme song, here are the "missing" lyrics:

If it's a car you lack, I'd surely buy you a Cadillac
Whatever you need anytime of the day or night
I'm mighty glad to say / I hope it always will stay this way
My hat is off / won't you stand up and take a bow?
And when we both get older / with walking canes and hair of grey
Have no fear, even tho it's hardly here
I will stand real close and say
Thank you for being a friend

Never really cared for the short version musically; I only like it because it gets you to the episode quicker. (also, there are less cuts in the episodes with the short version)
