Rocker pulls plug on fall U.S. jaunt

Lenny Kravitz's nineteen-date tour with Robert Randolph and the Family Band has been canceled, ten days after it was announced and a month before it was set to kick off with a September 11th show in Atlantic City.

"I was really looking forward to getting out there to meet and play for my fans," Kravitz said in a statement, not specifying the reason for the cancellation. "Unfortunately, things come up in life that you cannot control. I hope my fans will understand, and I will definitely make it up to them with these shows next year."

Fresh off a sold-out string of dates at European stadiums behind his new album Baptism, Kravitz was looking forward to mounting a large-scale U.S. tour. "I'm enjoying performing more than ever," he told Rolling Stone earlier this month. "It's been a long time since I went across America."

No rescheduled dates have been announced at this time for Kravitz. Randolph will make up the scrapped shows by playing a mixture of club gigs and festival dates, according to his publicist.

A little more than a week after announcing a North American tour, Lenny Kravitz has canceled his road plans due to unspecified "family matters." The trek was due to kick off Sept. 11 in Atlantic City, N.J., with Robert Randolph & the Family Band on hand to open.

"I was really looking forward to getting out there to meet and play for my fans," Kravitz says in a statement. "Unfortunately, things come up in life that you cannot control. I hope my fans will understand and I will definitely make it up to them with these shows next year."

The tour was to be Kravitz' first North American outing in more than two years, and had 18 dates on the books through an Oct. 16 show in Las Vegas.

Kravitz' latest Virgin album, "Baptism," debuted in June at No. 14 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 224,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

That's the one guy, aside from Prince, I was looking forward to catching on tour this year.
