EXPANDED versions of the musical performances featured each week on "American Dreams" are among the bonuses being offered on the NBC show's first DVD release.
"American Dreams: Season One Extended Music Edition" is due in stores Sept. 7 at a suggested retail price of $89.98, according to an announcement this week from NBC-owned Universal Studios Home Video. The DVD package contains all 25 episodes of the first season of "American Dreams," which premiered on NBC in September 2002. "American Dreams" is the nostalgic drama se ries about a 1960s Philadelphia family coping with the turbulence of that decade. The series which is due to start its third season Sept. 26 on NBC is as much about social unrest as it is about the era's music, multiple examples of which are featured in the show each week. Besides boasting a soundtrack of Top-40 hits of the '60s, the series recruits current music stars to perform selected oldies as the original artists who recorded them. Those performances, which are shown only partially on the NBC show, will now be available in their entirety on the "American Dreams" DVDs. The extended, complete versions of the performances should be one of the DVD's biggest selling points because of the variety of top artists who have appeared on the show including Usher as Marvin Gaye singing "Can I Get a Witness?"; Ashanti as Dionne Warwick singing "Walk On By"; Duncan Sheik as Bobby Darin singing "Beyond the Sea": Kelly Rowland as Martha Reeves singing "Nowhere to Run"; LeAnn Rimes as Connie Francis singing "Where the Boys Are" and others. Also included in the DVD package are audio commentaries from series star Brittany Snow and executive producer Dick Clark. Clark has also provided bonus material including vintage interviews and performances from the original "American Bandstand," the 1960s show that originated in Philadelphia and plays a key role in "American Dreams." |
