It seems like a lot of the same stuff Wally is going through in recent episodes has happened to me.

Like I wrote in the other thread, I didn't start shaving until awhile after most of my friends. Also, my parents pick out most of my clothes, like June and Ward wanted to do for him the other night.

For me, I recently had a time where I thought my mom loved my brother more than me. That reminded me of the episode "The Poor Loser".

Having 2 older brothers, I can relate more to Beaver. Nothing specific really, but sometimes I felt they had more privileges, and that I was expected to "live up" to them!

The ep where Beaver wore the monster sweatshirt to school reminded me of something. On my first day of fifth grade I wanted to wear my new shirt with this big picture of E.T. on the front. That movie was huge at the time and the best film I had ever seen. My mom didn't feel it was an appropriate thing to wear on the first day of school and she told me to wear a button down shirt instead. I did exactly what The Beav did and wore my E.T. shirt with the other shirt over it and went to school. My mom found out when I got home but didn't get real mad about it. It was a stupid thing for me to do and I don't blame my mom for wanting me to wear something a little nicer to school but I was a dumb kid and didn't understand where she was coming from I guess.

Like Duke, I can relate more to Beaver in my growing up experiences rather than to Wally. More than specific incidents that happened to me, I think I can relate to Beaver character as a whole, such as his naive' innocence, and the fact that he was easily talked into things he initially did not want to do.

Okay, mine is sort of like Ward's baseball episode. My aunt had this perfume in her room that she loved called Eternity. She left the bottle in the bathroom. I was like 5 at the time so I went into the bathroom and it smelled disgusting, so I sprayed it all over the bathroom until it was gone because I thought it was room spray. But I looked at the bottle and noticed what it was. I was nervous. I ran downstairs and dumped lemonade into the bottle and put it back in her room. She noticed it but didn't get too mad. Truth was it wasn't quite as special to her as I thought it was. She bought another at Filene's Basement.

One similar incident was like in "Beaver's Bike," episode #104; I also had a bicycle stolen and didn't want to tell my parents because it was from my negligence of leaving it in front of the house over night. Also like Beaver's bike, it was fairly new; about 2 or 3 months. But I was older than Beaver in that ep, in which he is in the 4th grade; I was 12 or 13. The way my dad found out about it was: he worked for the post office, and I and a brother and another friend went around the block and other nearby streets looking in all the garages and backyards that we could. We also asked a few people if they had seen the bike and described it. One we asked was the mail carrier, who knew us, and he asked my dad at the post office if we had 'found the bicycle yet.' I think that was 2 days after it happened.

Like you story especially as I presently work for the Post Office. Was curious what you Dad said and did to you after finding out?

He just came home and said, "..have you had a bicycle stolen?" He told me the mail carrier asked him about it. So I told him yes, and rather surprisingly he didn't blame me very much. Tht was probably because he was brought up on a farm where they didn't have a garage or much space to store things in, but people respected that and they didn't lose anything. He always did deplore the difference in living "in town" where neighbors are so close and touchy and nosy. Anyway, he did call the police and an officer came and made a report, as in "Beaver's Bike." But mine was never recovered. The moral was the same... our naivete or negligence may cause a loss, but the sooner we tell the authorities (parents and law officials), the better the chance of recovery.

Remember the episode when Beaver had to go to a birthday party where he was the only boy at the party? Ward and June insisted that he go but they didn’t know that he would be the only boy until Wally told them. Then they felt awful for poor Beaver.

Well, this isn’t exactly like that but it’s close. When I was in the 5th grade I joined the school choir. It was a great choir that year. My 5th grade teacher and his wife were the organizers. We had a very large and, really, almost famous – in the local area – choir that year.

I joined again when I was in the 6th grade but things were different that year. For one thing there was a new choir instructor. She wasn’t so good. Another problem was that my voice suddenly started to go through the change. I couldn’t sing a lick without squeaking and loosing it. I actually faked like I was singing during the Christmas show that we put on in front of the whole school and the parents.

The worst thing though was that there was only one other guy in the choir. All the rest were girls. I hated going to choir practice for that reason but I didn’t want to tell my parents because I thought they wouldn’t understand. I figured they would make me continue going anyway. So I quit going to practice after that horrible Christmas experience but pretended that I was still going. Practice was held in the mornings before school, so I had to put on quite an act by getting up early and leaving the house with no where to go, lol.

My brother finally told my parents what I had been doing. Just like Wally, he was pretty sure that Mom and Dad would understand. He wasn’t trying to get me in trouble. He was trying to help me get out of the mess that I was in.

As it turned out, my parents did understand. They felt bad for what I had been going through. I think they also thought it was quite funny though. In retrospect, it was.
