Default Dateline NBC a hit?

We all have had our eyes (and scorns) aimed at Cold Case and have blamed them for our demise.
But I had an ugly thought the other day.
Awhile ago I had written that if NBC lines up a show in our spot that brings in more viewers than we do.......we lose.
I thought they might experiment with different shows in the "hunt" for viewership.
But they have pretty much stayed with Dateline.
Does this mean people are tuning in to it?
We all have expressed the view that NBC could just show an hour of Dateline and show a few reruns of AD.
But they refuse to do it.
Does that mean they believe MORE people will tune into a 2 hour Dateline than a 1 hour Dateline and a 1 hour AD?
Who knows.
All we can do is wait and see if the new AD shows in Sept. bring in more or less viewers than Dateline.
If AD brings in less viewers, I shudder to think of the consequences.
Peace.

I am not into Dateline at all......But I wouldn't worry about dateline hurting "American Dreams"....Dateline is on before "American Dreams so the ad ratings won't be down cause of dateline they are both on the same channel different times......Mel

I only wish they were on at different times.
But only one of them can be shown from 8 to 9. That spot is currently used by Dateline.
Maybe some of the 60 minutes viewers switch over to Dateline after 60 minutes is over. If so, it's not good news for us.
No one can compete with 60 minutes. Maybe this is NBC's way to feed some of their viewers.
Hope not.

Someone just posted that reruns will be shown after the Olympics.

So guess what I worried about?

Reruns are shown.......the dvd is released around the 7th of September. Two marketing ploys attempting to bring us viewership.

Our season opener is the end of Sept.

NBC then looks at the average Dateline NBC numbers and our first few new season episode numbers and whichever is higher........wins.

By this time in October we are either cancelled and replaced by Dateline or we won and our season is extended.

I don't think they will cancel this show in October it's been on 3 years and they won't cancel the middle of a Season......It will probably go to April or May 2005 and by then they will either post it's been renewed for a 4th Season or that it ended.......

I think once the Olympics are done American Dreams will start September 26th and it should be fine cause Once Ad returns Dateline will be back on a 7pm......

Im not going to worry yet...But its up to everyone else here whether you all want to worry yet or not.....Mel

OUCH!

I just re-read all these posts from about 2 months ago and it made me shiver.

The success I was hoping for for AD has not happened (we are losing a million viewers a week), and Dateline (which supposedly is alot cheaper to produce) is beating us regularly (by over 40% this last week - 10/10).

The only part of the past posts that has not come true is the cancellation of AD and the extension of Dateline to 2 hours.

Maybe Mr. Zucker has had a hand in this. Go Jeff!

Peace.

I just had to sneak this in. I hope AD has Will Estes doing more shirtless pushups this week like last week.
My husband thinks I'm a relentless fan, but you have to admit he has a great bod.
Just my two cents!

Peace.

I just don't understand how Dateline keeps bringing in 9 million viewers. They go up against 60 minutes, which is an industry standard.
I guess I'm still a little fearful that if Dateline keeps outdrawing us for viewers that NBC might extend it to 2 hours and move/cancel us.
I hope I'm just being a wishy/washy woman......as my husband claims.

Would I feel better if Dateline did worse? No, I don't want to be against another show just because I love AD.
That would be silly.

Peace.
