Default "The Shave"

I just saw this episode for the first time tonight, and it is great! As a guy who didn't start shaving until some time after most of my friends, I really felt sorry for Wally, as I know how he felt!

And, though he did make up for it in the end, the way Ward humiliated Wally right in front of Eddie was sure rough! This was one time where I think Ward really went overboard with his temper!

It's also interesting that this is one of the early episodes when Wally was afraid of Lumpy Rutherford. Lumpy really angered Wally, but Wally backed down. In later seasons, Wally would tell Lumpy off in a minute. I also noticed that Lumpy wasn't even at the barber shop at the end to see Wally get the last laugh. It's like Lumpy wasn't really one of the gang early on. He was just a bully that would appear sometimes to make things worse.

I noticed that too. In the beginning, it was Wally, Eddie, Chester and Tooey. But after Chester and Tooey left, Lumpy became part of the group.

Why should I divide what feels so right?

Ward and Wally both mentioned that the guys were older than him. They were in the same grade so they couldn't be that much older than him. Maybe just a few months but that shouldn't make a difference. Sometimes younger kids can have things happen sooner, everyone's body is different.

I always wondered the same thing desilu#1. I also agree with you Tony, about Ward going overboard with his temper. I mean to say, "Stop trying to act so grown up!" in front of Eddie Haskell??? That's a little much even for him. And later in the episode when Beaver told him that, he said he sort of forgot Eddie being there...which to me is like an oxymoron! LOL!

Yeah how could anyone "forget" about Eddie smirking in the background, LOL! I really felt sorry for poor Wally!

And then Ward says something like "it's ridiculous for a boy your age to try to shave." I thought only my Dad was in sensitive like that, LOL!

I think Ward should have back handed that smirk right off Eddie's face! If I were Wally I would have kicked his ass!

One thing is that Ward was a bit of a different character in the earlier seasons...he would lose his temper more than in the later seasons, and I think that's what happened here. And also, my mom has balled me out in front of some of my friends before, and I think its just that sometimes parents get so mad that they don't really think "Oh, my kid's friend is here, I should wait until a more convenient time as to not embarrass them among their peers".

But Eddie really made me mad later in that ep when he started making fun of Wally in front of the rest of the boys. Wally would never do a thing like that to Eddie. Then again, Wally and Eddie are VERY different people who just happen to be best friends.

I thought Ward was much too tough on Wally in this episode.

I agree with Ward in this episode that 12 is too young to shave but he was too harsh on Wally while trying to tell him that.

Wally is a little older than 12 in this episode. He was only 12 when the show had just started and then he turned 13 right away. I think he was about 14 because he was a freshman in Mayfield High.

That's what I was going to say Mrs. Tony Dow 91, but I wasn't sure!
