The Cosby Show - Not all the Huxtable kids were not in every episode and Denise was gone. Lisa Bonet was the heart and soul of the show.
The Jeffersons - The show was showing its age in that season in a very bad way. Alice - The show got so bad that they shortened the final season episodes. Had the potential of going down as a classic show of the 70s. Three's Company - The misunderstanding gag wore its welcome out and the show began to look tired and stale. One Day At A Time - After MacKenzie Phillips went back on drugs the show was no good after that. They ran out of storylines and as Bonnie Franklin stated that season everyone was tired and wanting to move on. You can see it in their acting that year. The Mary Tyler Moore Show - That particular wasn't bad but it wasn't the best. If the show had gone on one more season it would had been a lame one. Moore was smart to pull the plug and not let it drag on. Happy Days - The show was never the same after the heart and soul of it was gone, Ron Howard, and it was showing its age. The hairstyles was more current and the clothes as well. Laverne and Shirley - No Shirley and Cindy Williams was the backbone of the show. Petticoat Junction - The plug should had been pulled after Bea Benaderet passed away. They dragged the show on by not addressing her death at all given she was the star of the show. They acted as though she never existed. June Lockhart, good as an actress she is, was not a good replacement for Bea. Facts of Life - With no Mrs. Garrett the show was no good. All In the Family - They should had ended after Mike and Gloria moved. After Stephanie moved in the show had a different feel altogether even though it was still All In the Family. Bewitched - We all knew what happened in the final season Coach - That show had all the potential of going down as a classic. The quality and scripts were not the same. That was a show that stayed on one season too long. Full House - A great family show should had known when to pull the plug. The final season was not funny to watch. It was a bad as the first season. The Carol Burnett Show - After Harvey Korman left Carol should had pulled the plug. Dragging the show on and replacing Harvey with Dick Van Dyke was a bad move. It was a slap in the face to him and his fans. He lasted about six shows, if that many. |

I thought Cloris joining the cast in season eight breathed new life into the series, which IMO had slipped a bit in seasons six and seven, although by all means the show should've wrapped at the end of season eight when Blair and Jo finished college. |

Cosby Show - not enough Huxtables, too much Olivia (why didn't she leave when Denise did?) and Pam
Ally McBeal - the show started it's downward spiral about 75% into season three when the character of Billy suddenly died. Season four was decent enough to keep the show watchable but it was all shot to hell in season 5 (the final season). First Lucy Liu left, then Julianne Nicholson joined as a "mini-me" Ally type, and then James Marsden and another actor came in, expecting to replace the voids left by Robert Downey Jr. But even then it was still tolerable... but it hit the fan when suddenly out of nowhere came... ALLY'S DAUGHTER!!! We were supposed to buy this strange situation that 11 years earlier Ally donated eggs to a sperm doner or something... but she never was pregnant. This was where I stopped the bus and left... and less than 2 months later, Fox cancelled it. |

The Waltons - Ralph Waite/John left the show as Michael Learned/Olivia did the previous year, leaving the Walton children without both (biological) parents.
The Wonder Years - The emergence of new friends of Kevin's (namely Chuck Coleman and Ricky Holsenbach) pushed Paul Pfeiffer out of the picture. Plus, Episode #99, "White Lies," took Kevin's relationship with Winnie in a never seen before direction. If the show had returned for a seventh season it would have rebounded bigtime; I believe the writers left to do the Roseanne spinoff The Jackie Thomas Show. TJTS was canceled after its one season in 1993, just like TWY, and I think with the original writers could have pushed TWY to #1 in the Neilsens had ABC had their thinking cap on and renewed it so we could see Kevin and his friends graduate. (Didn't Coach go from like #95 to #20 in one season?) Now ABC often finds itself behind Fox in the ratings, which serves them right.

What's Happening- The 3rd and final season was not that good. Too many changes hurt the dynamic of the show.

Roseanne - It just wasn't the type of season you want one of your favorite shows to end on. Whether you like it or not, it's not at all in line with the rest of the series.
Archie Bunker's Place - Horrible way to send off a veteran show of that age. |
