Thumbs up The Jackson 5

I hope for those you will watch tonight's movie on VH1, the movie is called "Man in the Mirror: The Michael Jackson Story". Besure to watch it tonight. But in the meantime, our Motown 45th Anniversary Artists Avatar of the Week will spotlight on five boys from Gary, Indiana, which is a smaller place to be. The Jackson 5 was one of the most popular group in the Motown's bubblegum era of the 70's along with the Osmonds. The Jackson 5 was formed in the mid-60's consisted of young Michael Jackson, the lead singer along with the brothers Tito, Jermaine, Randy and Marlin Jackson. The group started performing at the high school talent show in which Michael sang a rendition of the Temptations tune "My Girl" and the group won the contest. They traveled along at the Apollo Theatre's Amateur Night Show in which the boys won again. In 1967, they recorded their first song that it wasn't a hit, it was "Big Boy" and it was released on a small label called Steeltown. The group met singer Bobby Taylor, of the Vancouvers that he saw the group in Chicago. Diana Ross introduced to them and went to an audition in Detroit. The group signed with Motown records back around 1969 and Berry Gordy introduced to these three producers. Freddie Perren, Fonce Mizell and Deke Edwards are knownly called the Corporation. The first single came out by the end of 1969 was "I Want You Back" and it shot to #1 by January of 1970. Along with a bunch of hit singles like "ABC", "The Love You Save", "I'll Be There" and "Mama's Pearl". In 1971, the group starred in their first animated TV series of the same name. The group skyrocketed to the top. Their next pair of singles "Never Can Say Goodbye" and "Maybe Tomorrow" are good songs. They decided to do solo while they were part of the group. Will have more next week on the solo years of Michael Jackson. At any rate, the group continued to do singles until about 1974, the group released the single "Dancin' Machine" and it was a big hit. In 1976, they left Motown and went to CBS Records (Sony Music) divison, Epic records under their new name, The Jacksons. They released their first single on a different label called "Enjoy Yourself", "This Place Hotel", "Let Me Show You a Way to Go" and other songs are not exactly hits but until 1979, their huge hit "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)" was a success. The group came back in 1984 with the single "State of Shock" featuring Rolling Stones' lead guitarist Mick Jagger. The group inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. The Jackson 5 are still the greatest.
