Question Windows media help

I put a DVD I have in my computer (I wanted to get screen captures) and I got this message in Windows Media Player:

0xC00D1163: A problem occurred with digital copyright protection
A troubleshooter is available to help you solve this problem. To troubleshoot the problem, see the DVD Troubleshooter in Windows Help.

Notes

To play DVDs, you must have a DVD-ROM drive, and a software or hardware DVD decoder installed on your computer. If you do not have a compatible DVD decoder installed, DVD-related commands, options, and controls do not appear in the Player and you cannot play DVDs. By default, Windows does not include a DVD decoder. For more information about DVD decoders, see Windows Help.
DVD playback is only available on select versions of Windows.

Can anyone help me out with this? I do have a DVD drive and I used to play my dvd's with the PowerDVD program but it wasn't working right so I uninstalled it and tryed re-installing but lost the box... it requires a serial code. So now I can't use that program, now I don't know what a DVD decoder is. Is it something I can install? I couldn't find any other information about it in Windows Help, so it really wasn't any help. I saw something on the windows media page that mentioned a DVD decoder pack that you have to purchase, is there a way I can find a program for free? I don't really know much about this stuff, so maybe someone can help me here. Like what it is, for instance lol.

You should buy a DVD player that plays DVDs on the TV set.

I already have one, I wanted to take screen captures of a tv show.

Don't bother replying if you don't have anything useful to say.

the decoder is the part of the software that lets other programs read dvds - it wont work without it, and because it is a licenced technology you wont find it anywhere for free (at least legally)

best option would be to reinstall PowerDVD, see if you can find the serial # for it, or call and see if they will give you another one if you registered it.

if that fails search on Google for DVD Decoder s - just be wary of "free" ones.

You shouldn't be taking screen captures in the first place, unless it's your own DVD, filmed with your own camera. Or if you have the permission to take screen pix.

Um, ok I never claimed I owned the rights to the show and I'm not going to put them all over the internet. I like using them for blends and stuff like that.

Stop being an ass. To my knowledge, it is not illegal to take screen captures for my personal use. I obviously don't film TV shows. That's like saying you are violating copyright laws by using the picture in your avatar, you did not take that picture and you more than likely took it without asking the website and the photographer. Get a grip.

No, she's saying that what you are saying would imply that you think that too.

And they pull me behind, as I let off the pedal.
Why should I divide what feels so right?
Is this where I want to lay?

No you didn't, but it's the same type thing. If you thought taking screen captures off of a DVD is illegal, then you would also think taking an avatar from online is illegal. Since she's making blends out of the pictures and things like that, it's okay. It's not like she's posting these pictures online for everyone to see.

Thank you. And even if I put it online it still wouldn't be illegal. This guy just likes to start crap with people.
