Default Thelma and J.J playing the Mother and Father Role to Michael in season 5 was just

plain CRAZY. Thelma asking Michael-"why did you get a F on your test? and J.J putting Michael on Punishment was too WEIRD!!!

Believe it or not, the episodes with Poppo, Head, and Cool Breeze were the only eps worth recording. The eps that revolved around Penny, Willona, or Thelma were not working for me.

When Esther Rolle left the show, it was definitely time to shut it down.

Yet there's already been stuff that you bet wouldn't be released on dvd and they've come out. The quality of the season doesn't matter when it comes to releasing something on dvd. You don't think they'd want to cash in with Janet Jackson fans, or fans of the entire series period? When Good Times - Season 5 is released on dvd this time next year, I'm getting it.

I would have thought they would have brought 'Diff'rent Strokes' out by now. Word is that it is coming out the 10th of October.

they are definitely going to put it out. the rest of the DVDs have been a success in this series. and people are buying all of the classic shows b/c other than nick at nite and when TBS is in a good mood, can you see these shows. is there an all and ONLY classic television network playing the black and white leave it to beavers and rounding it out with hill street blues in the evening?!

from what i've read, the country is in a state of nostalgia, people want to be reminded of their childhood and times when things were simple. all you had to worry about was waking up in the morning and going to school. that was the real motivation for the sudden emergence of all of these classic shows being brought to DVD.

hell, i bought the Little House on The Prairie seasons on DVD. They're supposed to come out with Silver Spoons and a host of others. I woulda thought the Facts of Life would hit DVD before What's Happening. FOL had more of a general appeal, in my opinion. Although I loved both shows.

So don't sleep....they will release all of the GT seasons.

I agree that neither Thelma nor, especially, JJ had to kahunas to parent anyone- much less a teen sib! Why is it so many folks refuse to believe it possible for the divorced Willona to live in the projects (for two parent families and widows) but don't question how preposterous it would be for two 20-something sibs and their teen brother to do so?

Because Wilona is neither a 2 parent family or widow.
