You're absolutely right! Richard Dawson did made his comeback to host "Family Feud" for one season in 1994. The show did very badly in the ratings after Ray Combs left the show. The show didn't last very long until 1995 that "Family Feud" ended its successful run. That was what was happening 10 years ago that "Family Feud" with the return of Richard Dawson did not do well. I used to watch that show since I was at Anderson School at the time.

I watched a few shows when Richard came back in 94 and he was not the same person who originally hosted it. That's what, I believe, killed the show. He had no energy about him plus he put on so much weight.

VERY TRUE. The only game show hosts who came back to the show they were known for is Allen Ludden (Password), Dick Clark (The 10,000, 20,000 Pyramid), Jim Lange (The Dating Game), Jack Barry (The Joker's Wild), Bob Eubanks (The Newlywed Game), Gene Rayburn (Match Game) and Bert Convy (Tattletales).

With poor Richard the magic was no longer there. I personally think he really did not want to be there if the truth is to be told.

I agree. I think the ratings were starting to fall by then and the producers probably begged him to come back.I really don't enjoy any of the new hosts of Family feud. I think Richard on the original show was the best and I also liked Ray Combs.

Part of the reason why it didn't do well was because of the OJ Simpson trial (and things leading up to the trial) pre-empting the show. Other areas carried the show in poor timeslots. Also, the show's budget was significantly cut. On the first half of Richard's first show back, the family won a whopping $2,500, half of the grand prize in 1976!

Actually, the show was possibly going to be renewed, but the cancelation came after the show wrapped taping for the season, so a final "goodbye" episode was never shot.

*flame alert* Those Ray Combs fans are being too extreme about it. I believe that no matter who hosted that last season, it would have suffered the same fate.

Ray was turning Feud into The Ray Combs Show and not Family Feud hosted by Ray Combs. This led to arguments with the producer (who in Ray's defense was and still is a major *******) and arguments between the bigwigs always lead to disaster. Plus the ratings were going down faster than a downhill skier.

Richard's version's problem was some of the things people already mentioned, plus the show went CHEAP. They were giving away less money than they did in 1976. Which is ridiculous. They went to 4 contestants. They had that bullseye/bankroll round, which was bad when CBS stuck Ray with it. The set was kind of scary. Plus half of America never saw the show because of the OJ trial or it just wasn't offered in their market anymore.

So anyway, true, many people tuned in to see Richard and they expected 1976 and got 1994. They were disappointed. But had Ray hosted it with al those changes, it would have tanked too.

But from what I've seen, I liked it. Certainly not Feud 76, but 10000000000000x better than the Feud they offer us now.

They have 0 personality. Richard Karn could be replaced by cardboard and we might not see the difference.

I agree. What happened to him? He was so alive and full of energy in the 70's.

You're right about Richard not being as kissy as the original version. Also, the show was suffering from declining ratings and bringing back Richard Dawson was one way to hopefully rebound from the slump. But they shouldn't have cut the number of family members on a team from five to four and they should have left the Bullseye Round alone or abolished it.
