Default Can anyone think of any good reasons to buy TV DVDs as opposed to...

...renting them online on Netflix or other sites like that?

If it's a show you enjoy and know you would want to rewatch, that's obviously the best reason to buy over renting them. Any series that you feel an affection for like you would your favorite cd, or a favorite movie that you own on dvd, why would a tv series dvd be any different?

I have used Netflix to sample shows. I rented "24" and "Playmakers" through Netflix, and that helps to determine whether or not I'd want to own a show that I hadn't been familiar with. Renting and watching "24" one episode after the next helped to make me a fan of the show.

Those of us who are heavily into tv dvds probably always had a desire of owning our favorite series to be able to watch whenever we want as much as we want. That's the edge that owning tv dvds has over just renting them. Of course, it all depends on your level of interest in a particular show. But there's nothing at all wrong with just renting a set.

The DVDs (usually) aren't scratched or have been in someone else's dirty DVD player. Plus if you want to watch over and over and over, it's cheaper in the long run.

It's only one good reason, because the eps are full length

If you are committed to staying with Netflix and paying each month, I would say it makes sense to just rent until you find something you love and then own it so you can get to any episode you want from any disc.

Since you are paying a monthly fee and there is no additional costs, I would sample everything you think you want to buy- and maybe you will find you are aren't as into a show you thought you really wanted.

And then you just saved yourself some bucks.

I have noticed that many movie stores are starting to realize there's a market for TV DVD's out there. I saw they had the Cheers Season 2 and 3 DVDs for rent at my local movie store. You could get Disc 1 or 2 or the whole thing - doesn't matter. IMO...it's much cheaper that way.

I know little about dvds. Are they similar to vcrs. I mean can record or just play back discs. I would want one to record and play back. so in time I get rid of my vcr. Then again what would I do with all my recorded vhs tapes. I take it dvds are better qualityl
