Default Can we really say the first season of the Ropers was a success?

I don;t think so because once the spinoff started, there were no more new TC eps until the Ropers season was complete and the fact that the Ropers aired on Tuesday Night like TC, TC fans tuned in to see the Ropers since there were repeat eps of TC. So i don;t think the Ropers was as good as the ratings indicated after the 78-79 season.

Of course we can. It was the Ropers which was almost as good as My Mother the Car.

I don't think I can call the frst season of the Ropers a success because the producers of Thrre's Company purposely ending the 3rd season of Three's Company early so that the Debut of the Ropers would have more viewers

I agree, it wasn't a success.

Didn't the show rank 8th that year?

The pilot was the most watched first episode of any TV series in television history (according to 3s co guru Chris Mann).

It wasn't a fluke. Also, the time slot was different than in season 2.

Yeah the show finished #8 right behind Mash. Yes the Time slot was different in season 1. It was on Tuesday Nights competing against a CBS Tuesday Night Movie and NBC's Big Event. Two TV Programs that were not in the Top 30 so u can see the Ropers didn't have much Competition in the Spring of 79. But in the fall of 79, it was a different Story

The second season it was moved to Saturday night at 8 which was a death slot for ABC. One flop show after another had aired there for years and that wouldn't change until 1982 when TJ Hooker premiered. Plus it was paired with a real awful sitcom Detective School.

Still don't know why ABC had the Ropers had as a Lead In on Saturday Nights

It didn't make much sense . If they would have kept it on Tuesday after or before Three's Company it might have suceeded . A Different World was not a critical favorite when it first premiered but because it aired after the Cosby Show it became a hit.

The Ropers changed too much, the entire cast became unlikeable.

The biggest thing that stopped me from getting in to the Ropers was that Mr. Roper had no one to make fun of on the spinoff. That's what made him a riot on Three's Company so that's why he wasn't much to watch on the Ropers.
