Default Suzanne kept in opening credits

I was wondering why they kept Suzanne in the opening credits after her dispute in season 5 when she was barely in the episodes it at all. Was it because they didn't have time to make a new one or edit it or thought things could be reconciled. I also believe the last couple episoes aired after her firing had been anounced.

ABC was worried about the ratings after the Suzanne fiasco and thats why they kept her on the show at all. They had to keep her name in the opening credits so people would know she was still part of the show. Also I think John said at one time that he thought it was all going to blow over and Suzanne would be returning to the show but that never happened. By the end of the season it was obvious that Suzanne wasn't coming back. In syndication it looks strange because all of her scenes are edited out.

I read it was because there was not enough time to produce a new opening credit scene.

That could be part of it but other shows have changed opening scenes during the season. Maybe ABC was just cheap.

Also, Suzanne appeared in the phone tags in season five. They were usually edited in syndication, but that could have been a reason she was still credited.

I heard because her contract didn't expire until after Season 5.Then they created another one for seasons 6-8 which had Jennilee in it who was used more when she was in the ending credits than the opening credits

She was probably kept in the opening credits because she was in pretty much all the opening scenes at the Pier so if they had edited her out it would have involved doing the credits all over again. Now they could have done that with other characters like Larry, Lana, and Mr. furley because they only had one scene.

The little phone calls were not of any value

Getting rid of Chrissey wasnt that bad, the problem was that when it went Chrissey, Cindy, then Terri, it made them look desperate

if it went straight to Terri, and they didnt erase Chrissey existance from the universe, it would have been better

The main reason for keeping Suzanne in the credits is that, firstly, everyone held out hope that she would return to the show (including the producers, although they quickly wanted her out by the 4th episode). When she didn't back down and started telling her side of the story publicly, which was way past mid-season, that is when the producers opted to fire her. Still, the network told them not to do it, although ABC eventually agreed to also let her go.

Mind you, they were prepared early on for her to quit. In fact, it seems that the phone tags were designed to not only punish her, but to hopefully provoke her into not showing up at all so that the producers would have a reason for suiing her. But again, her fate on the show wasn't decided at this stage of the game.

When it was decided that she was done for good, there were like 3 episodes left for the season. Why bother going through the trouble of doing another opening for only 3 episodes, when in season 6 another one would have to be shot?
