I came across this site where servers in restaurants relay their stories about cheap celebrity tippers. Who knows if it's all true, but it's fun. There are also stories about generous star tippers too.

Ahhh, that's disgusting. God, I'm 15 and I type 20% if the waitress is pretty good, more if they're great, and 15 if they're awful. I would never not tip anyone.

Browsing the site (The ENTIRE website), it amazes me that the people I'm a fan of...are the better tippers/more friendly of the bunch, by and large.

Restaurant's frequently pay below minimum wage of the area the restaurant is in (I do believe some states have passed minimum wages higher than those of the federal minimum)
No tips means that the people waiting on you, if left un-tipped, wind up making around 60% of the minimum wage of an area |

I know. What if they just did a mediocre job, do you still have to add an extra $7,927?

Story Warning. You've Been Warned. ...Of course, having one disappear is better than not having one at all. I was at [unnamed Restaurant], and after being seated, waited almost fifteen minutes just for SOMEONE to come to the table. If the restaurant had been packed to the ceiling, I could understand...REALLY, I could. But, there was practically no one there at the time, so waiting THAT long just for someone to come and ask what you want to drink is downright inexcusable. Finally, the manager all but drags her to the table (I was almost ready to walk out at this point), and I get my drink ordered (I, at this point, go ahead and order my food, since I know what I want, to save time). She wasn't prepared to have me order both at the same time, and throws a fit. (If I wasn't as hungry as I was, I WOULD have left). she takes the order, storms off. No drink refills. Nothing. At least she didn't attempt to smash the plate against the table when she brought the food... Finally, eat, and leave. No tip. It's the only time in my LIFE I've NEVER tipped a waiter/waitress (and I'm the type who almost never tips LESS than 20%, and it's usually at least 25%) |

But, as long as they're not an ass about it, it's generally wise to at least tip SOMETHING. |

..........I see you've never worked in a restaurant. Don't say something about the restaurant business unless you've worked in it yourself. I haven't, but I had relatives (including my own immediate family) that did, for many years. They've come home complaining quite a few times about some of the nasty customers they had to deal with. None of the others you listed accept tips, because that's bribing. Besides - they get minimum wage or less. Believe me, I know. |

One time I was at a restaurant that had all of 4 people in it, and we never got a waitress. How she couldn't notice us...we were sitting out in the open! We walk out and she says thank you to us. My mom made some snide comment and we left.
